A record number of 2,970 students enrolled in on-campus classes this year. With only two days of registration before classes began, the lines of students realized the benefits of pre-registration during the summer. Mulerider roundup was an orientation for incoming freshmen held on the Monday and Tuesday before classes. Mulerider roundup gave freshmen the chance to get familiar with the SAU campus.

Life as a college student can be very stressful but it can also be a lot of fun. A student's life isn't just lectures and labs. It is checking your mail, exercising, eating in the cafeteria, making money, spending money, and maybe euen a little studying when you can find the time.

Southern Arkansas University held it's annual Family Day on Saturday, September 23. The Residence Hall Association's 20th annual Bed Race was one of the highlights of the day. All interested organizations and residence halls were able to participate. After many face-offs, Harrod hall claimed the victory. Their bed was decorated to look like a cloud and they called themselves the "Harrod Angels." Harrod team members were Antonio Chapman, Mesha

McClouden, Mark Daniels, Katie Hawkins, and Keith Williams. Harrod hall wasn't the only team to win something in the bed race. There were many other contests that teams could win. Bussey hall won the competition for attractiveness. The Wesley Foundation won the prize for originality. Greene hall won the craftsmanship award. Whether or not they won a prize, all of the teams had a lot of fun.

Once a year the Greeks of Southern Arkansas University get together to have a week of competitions, fun, and a lot of laughs. This year Greek Week kicked off with a karaoke contest sponsored by Phi Lambda Chi on Monday. The karaoke contest allowed everyone to show off his or her hidden talents. Sigma Tau Gamma won the karaoke contest. The Miss Mule contest allowed the guys of the school to have their own variation of the Miss SAU pageant. To take part in the Miss Mule contest, the men needed to prepare just like the Miss SAU contestants had to prepare. The men had to find the perfect dress, fix their hair, and think of their own special way to catch the eye of the judges. Sigma Tau Gamma turned out to win the contest. The step show is possibly the contest that students look forward to the most. The Greeks begin practicing weeks ahead of time to perfect their step. Quite a crowd turned out to see the Greeks perform. Phi Mu, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Sigma Pi, and Sigma Tau Gamma competed in a unique, funny, and slightly provocative show, using items such as cell phones, whip cream, and bed sheets. Sigma Sigma Sigma and Sigma Tau Gamma proved to be victorious at the step show.

Immediately following the step show, the annual Greek Week Toga party was held by Phi Lambda Chi. As always, it was a big hit. The fact that it was cold and raining didn't hold anyone back. They slipped on their togas and braved the cold weather. If you are one of those people thinking that partying is the only thing that Greeks do, you are wrong. Kappa Sigma Phi hosted a track and field day, and Alpha Sigma Alpha sponsored an Easter egg hunt. Greek week proved to be a great one whether or not you were a Greek.

THE COVER OF LIFE

The Cover of Life, the first production in the 2000-2001 school year, is a strong drama laced with humor, and pathos, according to Dan Skelton, director. The play is set during the fall of 1943 in Sterlington, LA. The story involves three different women who have each married a Cliffert brother. The men have all enlisted in different branches of the military and gone to war, leaving their wives with their mother in law. Starring in this play were Tonya Andrews, as Tood, Lauri Brown as Kate Miller, a local reporter, as well as Christie Roden, Brie'anne Harper, and Kathleen Weller, and newcomers Amie Eoff, and Jon Nooner.

THE RTH

The final play of 2000, was The Fourth Wall, by A.R. Gurney. This show focused on the mid-life crisis of Peggy, played by freshman Sarah Hoelzman. Peggy believes that there is an audience beyond her living room wall, the fourth wall, and has her home rearranged to look like a play set. Her husband Roger, Played by John Ford, is very concerned about this and calls in some friends to help. First, Julia, played by Christie Roden, an old friend of Roger's from New York, and she has other something other than helping Peggy on her mind. Floyd, played by Eric Griffis, is called in to help as well. He is a theater professor, and he begins to agree with Peggy, and coaches her in her ideas and trying to help Roger and Julia see what is happening.

TH

The third play of the Harton theatre season was entitled "The Real Queen of Hearts Ain't Even Pretty", by Brad Bailey. The play is a Comedy/drama which focuses on the Queen of Hearts Pageant held at a high school, and how four girls respond to the pageant and it's hype. The play begins on a light hearted note, focusing on two high school seniors, Liz Nichols, played by Christie Roden, and her sidekick, Cass Wilson, played by Julie Nooner. The two gave very humorous and realistic portrayals of the jealousy and cynicism of high school girls. The audience was then introduced to Paula Burgess, played to the hilt by Tonya Andrews. We soon meet the seemingly perfect Sherri Lee, played by Sarah Hoelzman, who is hated by all of the girls in the school. We learn that Sherri Lee has won the Queen of Hearts. The second half of the play reveals the true nature of all the girls, the dominant and manipulative Sherri Lee shows her true self, and befriends Paula and Cass, leaving Liz alone. This was a poignant and humorous look inside the true nature of high school girls.

When Southern Arkansas University moved into the Gulf South Conference in 1995, it left the Muleriders and Riderettes without a conference in track and field since the GSC does not sponsor the program. The 'Riders and Riderettes compete, often against NCAA Division I programs, in meets around the area and have competed surprisingly well against the strong competition the past six years.

The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders slumped in 2000 to 5-5-0 after a three-year reign as one of the premier program's in the Gulf South Conference when they won 26 of 31 games. In spite of the break-even record, Delta State, the national champion, had to score with less than a minute remaining to squeak by SAU 30-28 and Valdosta State, a national play-off team, also scored with only seconds remaining to come from behind and win 30-29. SAU finished the season with a record-setting 86-27 win over Henderson State. Tackle Michael Boster, center Trey Lavalle and linebacker Eddie Key were named first-team AII-GSC.

For those who chose to become a member of a member of a greek organization, their school year was full of parties, football games, formals, and best friends. The close-ess that comes with a greek organization

can only be defined as sisterhood and brotherhood. Many people say that the friends you meet in college are friends for life. For greeks this statement really is true.
