CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL ARCHITECTS LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS PLANNERS

The work of CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL is internationally recognized for

advancing the art of sustainable, regenerative design in the landscape.

Critically acclaimed at the “intersection of poetry and civic purpose”, this work has

ranged from public projects noted for design processes involving large numbers of

participants, through creative partnerships with clients, fellow scientific, planning, public

policy and design professionals, and constituencies of cultural, academic and research

institutions, environmental organizations and

communities - collaboratively creating landmark

works recognized as expressions of

commitment to a sustainable future.

CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL has had the

opportunity to work in the context of significant

cultural and natural settings throughout the

United States and abroad. Our work is based

on the premise that landscapes are living

systems that by definition include humanity –

we believe landscapes must be evolving artifacts authentically expressive of

expanding conceptions of community and new relationships with the rest of nature. Our

work ranges from city and regional scale urban landscape infrastructure planning and

design – transit systems, waterfronts, academic and research campuses, cultural

destinations, museums, arboreta, and libraries – through parks, squares, plazas and

works of public art to ecosystem remediation and interpretation in diverse landscapes in

North America, Europe and Asia experiencing rapid socio/economic growth and

unprecedented environmental change .

SUSTAINABILITY

The work of CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL positions "sustainable design" in the broadest

possible context, and defined not only on technology and consumption metrics, but as

authentically coming out of a place and a community. Our approach is founded on

discovering, expressing and sustaining community by the articulation and practice of an

ethic of environmental and social responsibility, through a continuing engagement with

the creative process.

COMMUNITY

Our work in the civic realm – the expression of vibrant settings for

public life - and in planning and design for University, Research,

Cultural and Health Campuses is based on our belief that the

expression of landscape is fundamentally the expression of

community. We are widely known for collaborations such as

Maguire Gardens at the LA Central Library, called the most

successful urban open space in downtown Los Angeles.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Environmental and social responsibility organically informs all of our

efforts. We are leaders in the planning and design of projects

explicitly linking environmental design and public health, fitness and

well-being, notably including our pioneering projects for Audubon

and the National Museum of Science and Industry in London.

CREATIVE PROCESS

CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL is internationally noted for its successful

collaborations with partners, clients, regulatory agencies and

consultants, and the public at large, through participatory planning

and design processes which address and recover connections to

community and the natural world, building community and inspiring

human creativity through engagement with nature .

CAMPBELL & CAMPBELL is the recipient of significant

professional recognition, including invited international

commissions and citations, numerous awards from the AIA, ASLA,

APA, National Waterfront Center, Highest LEEDS Platinum Honors

from the United States Green Building Council, and United States

Congressional recognition. For more information see:
