about camp jWelcome to Camp J, where campers make memories and friendships that last a lifetime! We are excited to share the tremendous Camp J experience with you and your family. Our programs encourage campers, from toddlers to teens, to explore and develop their interests in a fun, supportive community. In addition to participating in our full range of camp activities, our campers become more independent, experience being part of a group and a community, and learn to interact with their peers. With program options for every age and interest, Camp J is the place for your child to grow and shine.

Nothing is more important to us than your child’s care and well-being. Our staff are selected based on their interest and experience in working with children, and their embodiment of the friendly, energetic, and caring environment that we create at camp. All staff are background checked, and participate in a week-long training program prior to the summer to prepare them to provide your camper the support he or she needs for a successful summer.

We take great pride in our inclusive environment, which welcomes children of all faiths, families and backgrounds. While the JCC is not a religious institution, we proudly celebrate Jewish culture and values, such as kindness, community, compassion and caring for the environment. Jewish and Israeli culture is experienced through singing, food, and fun activities.

We hope that you will join us at Camp J and be part of another summer of fantastic memories. We know they’ll last a lifetime!

Field TripsEvery Wednesday is field trip day (except during Color War)! All Camp J General and Sports campers head off-site to participate in fun activities around Orlando. Past field trips have included Disney World, Sea World, Gatorland, Coco Key Water Park, bowling, miniature golf, Tampa Bay Rays baseball game, and tubing at Kelly Park. Specific activities subject to change.

Fun daysEvery day at camp is special, but our special “fun days” take it to the next level. Don’t miss this year’s special events:

battle of the Cities: A mini, one-day Color War in the first half of the summer. Campers are split up into teams representing different American cities and spend all day competing!

israeli experience: Travel abroad without ever leaving Orlando! Camp is transformed as campers make pita bread, shop at a shuk (market), and experience Israeli song and dance!

talent show: Parents are invited to watch their campers (and their counselors!) show off their many new talents learned at camp.

thursday is Crazy thursdazy: From crazy hats to crazy hair to crazy socks, every Thursday is an opportunity for campers to get a little crazy!

camp TraditionsEvery Friday afternoon, our camp community comes together to celebrate Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath. This event involves a reflection on the past week, a spirited song session, and awarding the “ruach (spirit) stick” to the campers that have best embodied our camp’s values of friendship and enthusiasm.

color war (week 6)Every summer, our most anticipated event is Color War, a week-long team competition. From track and field to song-writing to a cook-off to our annual spelling bee, there are activities for every camper! And don’t forget the All-Camp Relay! This year’s Color War theme and team names will be revealed the first week of the summer. Register your child now for this epic and unforgettable week of friendly competition! New for 2014: Campers in grades 5-8 will sleep over one night during Color War, making the competition last even longer!

Camp J’s youth camps are offered on a weekly basis, and provide campers the opportunity to choose a general camping experience, or a sports specialty program. Campers participating in both options are part of the same fun camp experience and participate in daily events like morning flagpole and WaterZone, plus special events like field trips, “fun days,” and our annual talent show.

Jr. CITs participate in camp activities and regular camp field trips as a group, and attend a daily workshop to learn about child care and leadership. Jr. CITs work together to plan and execute a program for campers at the end of each week.

“My experience as a counselor-in-training at Camp J not only taught me how to help campers learn and grow, it gave me the leadership skills to succeed in school and throughout the rest of the year. The relationships I've built with both campers and staff have had a meaningful impact on my life, and I look forward to returning to Camp J each and every summer!”

Dietary Laws

The JCC observes a “kosher-style” dining policy. This means, when packing your child’s lunch:

• You may never pack pork or shellfish, or products containing them.

• Only dairy or meat products may be included in a camper’s lunch, but not both.

• Fish is not considered meat, and may accompany anything.

Our parent manual contains more information about our food policies, included suggested lunches.

Food Allergies

The JCC is a nut-sensitive facility. Campers are not permitted to bring food that contains peanuts or tree nuts, and sharing of food is discouraged. Although we do our best to ensure adherence to this policy, we are unable to completely rule out of the presence of nuts or the possibility of cross-contamination. All food provided by the JCC is free of peanut and tree nut ingredients. Please contact us for complete details about the policies and procedures we have in place to keep our campers safe.

Pizza in the Preschool

The Early Childhood Camps will offer pizza lunches on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays for $4. Please see page 3 for more details.

Snacks

Daily snacks are provided for Camp J General and Sports camps, and again for campers participating in our extended care option in the afternoon.
