Hope Conference & Renewal Center is the year-round camp, conference and retreat center of the Eastern District of the Moravian Church. Hope Center is situated on a hillside overlooking Little Silver Lake, with 125 acres of forests, wetlands, fields and lawns. Located at its current site in Hope, NJ since 1946, Hope Center is approximately 90 minutes from New York City and 45 minutes from Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. Exit 12 of Rt. I-80 provides convenient access to the facility.

Accommodations include eight (8) cabins, with heat and bath, for year-round use, and four (4) rustic cabins with heat. Meals are served in the Dining Hall or from the kitchen in the Upper Lodge. The covered picnic pavilion seats 150. Recreation facilities include a sand volleyball court, basketball court, hiking trails, canoeing, paddle boats and swimming in season. A low ropes course (available with facilitator only) is a

great group-building experience. Several Pocono ski resorts are within 30 minutes of Hope. Hope village is experiencing a renaissance with quaint antique stores, gift shops and eateries. Hope Center accommodates up to 96 persons in the winter months and 144 in the warm months. Group retreats can be arranged during the week or on weekends from mid-August to mid-June. During the winter months (November-April) the Upper Lodge and 12 heated cabins are available for rent. From May through October the entire facility is available for use. GENERAL INFORMATION

HEALTH AND SAFETYHEALTH AND SAFETYHEALTH AND SAFETYHEALTH AND SAFETY

During the summer camp and conference schedule a nurse or EMT and certified first-aiders operate under standing orders of a local physician 24 hours a day. In the event a camper requires emergency medical attention beyond first aid, whenever possible parents/guardians are first contacted to apprise them of the situation. Parents/guardians are notified immediately if their child becomes ill or extremely homesick. Swimming and boating are carefully supervised by certified lifeguards. One lifeguard is provided for every 25 swimmers, with a minimum of two guards at all times. In addition, lifeguards are trained as first responders in first aid and CPR. Campers are supervised at all times by well-trained volunteer staff. At minimum there is one staff member supervising every 6 campers in the 6-8 age range, a 1:8 ratio for campers ages 9-14, and 1:10 for campers 15-18. STAFFSTAFFSTAFFSTAFF Staff members are made up of both volunteers and paid staff. Volunteers are pastors and other adults (18 years and older) serving as conference deans and counselors. PrePrimary, Primary, and Middler Conferences and Swim and Fishing Camps also utilize Jr. Counselors. Jr. Counselors are at least 16 years old and 2 years older than the oldest camper being super-vised. Jr. Counselors assist the Counselors and Deans in carrying out all aspects of the program. In youth Specialty Camps, specialists are adult vol-unteers who have documented training and expertise in the focus of the camp. As with the conferences, volunteers age 18 and older serve as coun-selors at Specialty Camps. Family and adult programs are led by pastors and lay leaders.

Paid staff members are young adults who are trained by the Center Administrator. They prepare and serve meals, and provide office support, lifeguarding services, facility maintenance and cleaning.

Quilt Camp is a four-day retreat designed for women. If you would like to learn to quilt, you will receive

expert instruction and encouragement. We have devotional times, shared meals, and time to enjoy the outdoors. The schedule at Quilt Camp is flexible. Feel free to come for the whole four days or any days or nights that work for you.

In addition to stitch-ing, we share tips and tools of the quilting art, and take time to show off our latest projects. To keep costs low, this camp brings its own food. Each camper is asked to bring ingredients for meals. We

have a cook who prepares meals and cleans up for us! We even have an annual “banquet” and awards cere-mony (Dutch treat at a local restau-rant). The Hope Quilters, which is what we call anyone who helps with the quilt-ing projects, meet during the year for work days. If you are Interested in joining us,

contact Lois Bly at 610-360-0132 for a schedule. You can also find us on Face-book!

You are welcome to come for all or part of the week. Register early so we can plan effectively.

There will be a quilt to work on, and anyone is welcome to spend as little or as much time stitching as they like. Quilting isn’t required, however. You can bring your own hand-work.

Leader: Leader: Leader: Leader: Rev. Lois Bly, (Advent Moravian, Bethlehem PA) Dean of the camp, provides devotionals. Have questions?

This Winter Retreat is a chance for High School & post high youth (up to age 21) to gather at Hope Cen-ter for a fun weekend. This is an opportunity for youth who have not attended a week-long summer session to give camp a try for a week-end. It is also a time for experienced campers to visit with friends from Summer Camp. The retreat offers a mix of Biblically based program-ming with ample time for relaxation and fun as well. We begin with registration on Friday at 8 pm, and opening worship at 9 pm. Our retreat concludes on Sunday, with pickup between 10:00 am and noon.
