• According to the National Strategy for Rural Water Supply (2011-2025), 50% of Cambodians (7.5 million) have access to safe drinking water. The government has envisioned the Kingdom to have full access to clean water by 2025.

• A total of around US$119 million was invested by the Government and the Asian Development Bank for a provincial water supply and sanitation project.

• By 2025, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority plans to increase its clean water capacity from 600,000 cubic metres a day to 1 billion cubic metres a day.

• The Japanese International Cooperation Agency is building a wastewater treatment plant in Dangkor district’s Choeung Ek commune after a year-long feasibility study. With a capacity to treat 5,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily, the US$25 million project is set to improve sewage management in Phnom Penh.

• Water scarcity is a common problem among Cambodia’s rural areas. An end-to-end project that includes the installation of small water kiosks has sprouted across the country since last year. Founded by Water Environment Venture Co., Ltd (WE Venture), the kiosks help to provide safe drinking water to villages that often lack such necessities.
