Calvary Baptist Church September 2019 1,683 years ago, these words were written by Gregory of Nazianzus: Jesus began His ministry by being hungry, yet He is the Bread of Life. Jesus ended His earthly ministry by being thirsty, yet He is the Living Water. Jesus was weary, yet He is our rest. Jesus paid tribute, yet He is the King. Jesus was accused of having a demon, yet He cast out demons. Jesus wept, yet He wipes away our tears. Jesus was sold for thirty pieces of silver, yet He redeemed the world. Jesus was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, yet He is the Good Shepherd. Jesus died, yet by His death He destroyed the power of death. Those words are words that are needed in our day. To say we live in “chaotic times” would be a great understatement. We live in a time of exploding change. Families are being torn apart, social order seems to be crumbling around us, and new ways of living and life-styles are appearing daily. These changes are could greatly affect our values and create a toxic environment in which to live. The good news is that for the believer, for the follower of Christ, Jesus is enough! Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” What He was, He still is! He is our Rock and our Foundation. Jesus’ seven “I Am” statements recorded in the gospel of John provide for us Hope in this everchanging, chaotic world. Jesus is enough! Hope you will plan to join me every Sunday morning for the next several Sundays as we dive into the seven “I am” statements made by Jesus. They are just as real for us today as they were in A.D. 381. 1,683 years ago, these words were written by Gregory of Nazianzus:

Jesus began His ministry by being hungry, yet He is the Bread of Life.

To say we live in “chaotic times” would be a great

understatement. We live in a time of exploding change. Families are being torn apart, social order seems to be crumbling around us, and new ways of living and life-styles are appearing daily. These changes are could greatly affect our values and create a toxic environment in which to live. The good news is that for the believer, for the

follower of Christ, Jesus is enough! Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” What He was, He still is! He is our Rock and our Foundation. Jesus’ seven “I Am” statements recorded in the gospel

of John provide for us Hope in this everchanging, chaotic world. Jesus is enough!

Hope you will plan to join me every Sunday morning for the next several Sundays as we dive into the seven “I am” statements made by Jesus.

They are just as real for us today as they were in A.D. 381.

I, therefore, a prison of the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called. Ephesians 4:1

As we begin our new church year, the student ministry will be pursuing a new course of study this quarter in fleshing out Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians. Our students will be challenged each week in daily personal devotions in preparation for their Sunday morning bible study, and then we will spend our following Wednesday nights reinforcing key truths and passages from those study times. I am so excited to see how Paul’s letter will reveal and embed the foundational realities of our calling of being “in Christ” with our students and leaders.
