I find many people try these herbs for this reason and wake up in front of the TV set after smoking these plants. It didnt knock them out. They were just so tired they needed the sleep. Sometimes people smoke these plants and dont feel anything. You may have to take notice of it consciously. However, if you are irritable and about to fight with your partner, you will find the effects pronounced.

Medicinal Smoking Herbs for Calming

by Howie Brounstein

Intro:

Calming herbs are antispasmodic for muscle cramps, sore muscles, menstrual cramps, hiccups, spasms,

tight muscles, etc. They are also used for their psychological effects. They are good for anger, fear, pain,

anxiety, circular thoughts that go round and round in your head that you cant get rid of, relaxing after a

hard day, blues, melancholy, irritability, too much coffee or other stimulants, and circular thoughts that

keep coming back to you.

Calming herbs are very good for quitting Marijuana smoking. Many people smoke Marijuana because

they want to unwind after work. The constant hustle- bustle of modern life only leaves us a few hours in

the evening to relax. Many people are too wound up from work. The only socially acceptable drugs

available are alcohol and pharmaceutical tranquilizers that wreak havoc on our bodies, thus the evening

Marijuana smoker.

Unfortunately, Marijuana has effects other than just relaxing. Many people become cloudy, paranoid, orshaky from blood sugar imbalances, but it is the only drug they know to take. These people can be

helped greatly by calming herbs.

These herbs will relax you without clouding your judgment. You will feel them. They are as strong as

Marijuana but with a different effect. It causes a calm clear feeling that will not interfere with the rest of

your evenings thoughts. It will relax you and stop the rehashing of the days constant traumas so that

you can fall asleep naturally, if youre tired. I find many people try these herbs for this reason and wake

up in front of the TV set after smoking these plants. It didnt knock them out. They were just so tired

they needed the sleep.

Sometimes people smoke these plants and dont feel anything. You may have to take notice of it

consciously. However, if you are irritable and about to fight with your partner, you will find the effects

pronounced.

Other smokable calming herbs worth an honorable mention include Passionflower, Passiflora sp., and

Hops, Humulus sp.

Skullcap, Scutellaria sp.:

Skullcap is a very good calming herb to smoke. I find that the commercially available Scutellaria

lateriflora is not very strong as a smoke. Almost all commercially available Skullcap is too dry and

stemmy to make a good smoke. The Scutellaria galericulata the more common plant found growing wildin the United States is much stronger. It is roughly equivalent in strength to good Marijuana leaf or bud

shake. It works in almost all cases. The nice green leaf is easy to roll and blends well with many smoking

mixtures. It is one of my standard smoking ingredients.

I have found through blatant experimentation that the desert species of Skullcap, Scutellaria nana, is

exceptionally strong. We affectionately call it Mad Dog Desert Skullcap. Mad Dog Weed is another

common name for Skullcap as this plant was used to treat rabies in the past. Found throughout the

Great Basin the small, nearly invisible plant is as strong as the highest quality Marijuana. Unfortunately,

it will cloud your head and make you tired unlike most of the other herbs we use. If you live in a desert

area you should definitely try your local little Skullcap. This herb is so strong I urge mixing it with other

herbs.

Elephants Head, Parrots Beak, and Indian Warrior, Pedicularis sp.:

All of the Pedicularis are tranquilizers and muscle relaxants. They are of varying strengths with

Elephants Head, Pedicularis groenlandica, being the mildest. The most outstanding thing aboutPedicularis are their flavor. They are the best tasting herbs for smoking I have found. Some are so

strong that they rival Mad Dog Desert Skullcap. Many of them form unusual looking groups of flowers

that dry into illegal looking buds. Indeed, Elephants Head dries to beautiful red or purple buds with

what appears to be red hairs. Cobrahead, Pedicularis bracteosa, dries into green buds that could easily

confuse a local peace officer. The effects however are profoundly different.

Cocoa contains anandamine, which is said to be a THC like euphoriant. Could this be extracted and

smoked?

IMPORTANT: Swims friend realized that he mis-identified the plant he was testing. It is actually Salvia

nemorosa but contains the same active essential oils so doesn't make any of this information non-

relevant. Salvia nemorosa is stronger than Salvia pratensis though.

Well swims friend loves to study and research drugs. He usually doesn't go over his past drug history

but will now so that he can show just why this is the best cannibinoid replacement, as he has tried so

many other substances in the past.

Past history includes the following substances. Cannabis, Hash, Hash Oil, Alcohol, Psilocybin

Mushrooms, LSD, 2c-e, Mescaline, Salvia d. 20x, MDMA, MDA, Methamphetamine /Amphetamine

Page 6: Calming Herbs

(mixed with mdma), Methylone, Valerian, Kava, LSA, Methylphenidate, Adderall, Cocaine, Crack,

Almost all synthetic opiates, Heroin, Opium, Poppy Seed Tea, Benzodiazapines, Muscle Relaxers, Toad

Venom, DMT, theres probably more and many variations of already said drugs. This is just to show he

has tested the pharmacology of a few substances.

As for what he uses as of lately, he has been drinking probably once a week the past month or so. He

uses suboxone twice a day but has yet to see it counteract any substances to any great degree, besides minorly killing a mdma high. He also smokes high quality cannabis daily, multiple times a day.

The past few weeks it has been even better than usual, and he has also been smoking on some bomb

hash the past month as well.

Well with all that finally said yesterday he found himself short on money and pretty much ran out of

bud. He has lots of resin but that only holds him over for a few hits. He wasn't really tweaking at this

point as he knew he had to go to his girls parents home and didn't want to be high during that. But

knew he would after the dinner and wasn't sure what he was going to do. His father has alot of

Meadow Sage or Salvia pratensis growing in parts of his yard.

Swims friend remembers reading that, that type of sage contained a cannabinoid that hits on the CB2

receptors. Along with other components that are probably active as well in its essential oil. He willdescribe the components of the oil more after he writes his experience.

So with dinner with future inlaws in a few hours, and wishing he had buds... He took 10 big, medium,

and small leaves, and placed in the mouth to chew on and get in the saliva. He first tried to do like

tobacco and place in the front part of the lip, but it was just slightly too much material. So he ended

up just holding it in the right side of his mouth, occasionally chewing and swallowing all the saliva that

was created. He only did this for 8-10mins before feeling something, in which he immediately spit it

out. Realizing he might be in for a little more than he expected.

Over the next 20mins the feeling increased to that of something he never expected... He actually felt

something that resembles cannabis!! Never before had he tried anything that came even close,

although things get compared to cannabis all the time, he has never felt anything that even closelyresembles the high. But with this stuff for the first time he found something that could quench those

cannibinoid receptors.

The best way to describe the effect of this stuff is, like suboxone is to heroin. It made swim not feel

the need to use cananbis, but lacked the euphoria that can be obtained from cannabis. It did have

euphoria but the best way to describe it was euphoria due to relief of symptoms, kinda like suboxone

does when withdrawaling from heroin. It also had a very spacey feel to it, moreso than cannabis does

on swim. He would constantly find himself fighting to think straight, and no matter how hard he tried

it wasn't happening.

To make sure what he was feeling was accurate he brought his little brother outside. He explained to

him that this plant contained a cannabinoid and that it might help with his slight cannabis withdrawal

too. (Not that cannabis withdrawal is overly painful but still not fun.) His brother kept it in for 10mins

in which he said he was already feeling something and spit it out. When swim was about to leave he

said that he was feeling something and "it wasn't bad for not having anything (cannabis)".

So over the next hour the feeling is just getting stronger. Now swims girl comes and picks him up and

they head to her parents house. He is starting to realize that although he is not paranoid like he may

sometimes be on cannabis, he is worried about his mind not working properly and he feels tired in the

head almost. So he grabs a cheap cappuccino quick before they arrive.

When he arrives he hopes that the caffeine will wake him out of his brain stupor like normally, this

never happened. He had to fight the whole 3 hours to keep himself looking normal. If he woulda just

let go, he probably would have stared at something for minutes like an idiot. In the end he was able to

keep it straight and survived the experience so to say lol.

So nows its probably been 5-6 hours or so since dosing by the time they arrive home. And he was stillfeeling it strong, he found some bud in his wallet crushed in a bindle tho thank god. So now was a

perfect time to see how the two went together. He took two hits and found that they did in fact blend

nicely. He was much more tired than normal and finished the night with a bit of kava which made him

feel awesome all combined.

Next day feeling good, thinks that there may be some good to come from this plant. He thinks it could

mix well with kava to make a pretty awesome feeling tincture or extract. Also its something that he

will use in the future for relief when cannabis runs dry.

What amazed him was the small amount of material needed to achieve an effect and how quickly it

came on. From what he has read most people have only tried smoking this and with little effect. Fresh

leaves may also be much more active than dried ones as the active components are in the oils andmay degrade or change rapidly upon drying.

Now onto the components of the oil that may be what give its activity. There are quite a few oils

present but will only go over the major ones.

Percentages are based on the % that its contained in the essential oil, NOT in the plant material.

E-caryophyllene - 26.4%

E-B-Farnesene - 6.0%

epi-Bicyclo sesquiphellandrene - 5.6%

B-Cubebene - 5.6%

Germacrene B - 3.4%a-Humulene - 2.9%

B-Elemene - 1.4%

There are more but these are the largest components of Salvia pratensis. So now swims friend will go

over a few and what they may do.

Beta-caryophyllene was shown to selectively bind to the cannabinoid receptor type-2 (CB2) and to

exert significant cannabimimetic anti inflammatory effects in mice. Since the widespread plant natural

product beta-caryophyllene is an FDA approved food additive and ingested daily with food it is the first

dietary cannabinoid. Whether this compound is able to modulate inflammatory processes in humans

via the endocannabinoid system is yet unknown. Beta-caryophyllene does not bind to the centrally

expressed cannabinoid receptor type-1 (CB1) and therefore does not exert psychomimetic effects.

This stuff also seems to be found in the essential oil of cannabis as well in amounts of 3.8% - 37.5%.

So that would explain how it helped relieve the withdrawals from cannabis.

More on everything later, more bioassays and info on contents of oil later.

Peace

Well swims friend thought it might be, and still doesn't know if it was Salvia pratensis for sure, but will

confirm tonight hopefully. But the flowers on his are violet almost where as the common sage looks

more pinkish. Also the flowers are shaped exactly like that of Salvia pratensis. The leaves are alsoslightly different from that of sage. But he will post a pic later so others can get a look.

If the plant is growing near his home, give it a try one day. Swim will go weigh a dose of fresh tonight

so others can check it out. But its possible to snag enough leaves without anyone ever noticing. 10

medium to large leaves should be enough for a test dose. Swims friend is going to try the flowers

next. And also wants to test smoking them. He thinks smoking might be too hard as the dose would

probably be rather large, but maybe not. Probably a good joint/blunt would be enough.

He is so excited about this he might even dose some more tonight, just hopes he isn't jumping into

anything too hard on the body, but someones gotta try. Seems like sage plants are a new frontier for

interesting substances.

He thinks mixing this and kava would be the bomb shit, he is thinking of doing a quick extraction on

some leaves with everclear then adding his store-bought kava extract thats dissolved in everclear as

well. Would be some euphoric goodness all legal.
