Shalom means belonging to an authentic and nurturingcommunity in which one can be one’s true self and give one’s self away without becoming poor. Justice, harmony, and enjoyment of God, self, others, and nature; this is the shalom that Jesus brings, the peace that passes all understanding.”

It is hands-on, patient-centered, physical psychosocial and spiritual intervention to meet the needs of the patient regardless of how the nurse feels.” Caring is an act of faith – it involves risk of opening ourselves to another Whole person – all dimensions – physical, social, psychological, spiritual Luke 2:52 “And as Jesus grew up, he increased in wisdom and in favor with God and people.” TNIV Intricately woven together and need to be addressed as a whole. Often treat symptoms instead of treating the root cause. A Healing Resource for the World

Presenter
Presentation Notes
General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing UK, past president of the ANA and former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health US Department of Health and Human Services. “My vision for nursing is that we are a healing resource for the world. Nurses provide more than 80% of all direct care worldwide, yet frequently when world health is discussed, nurses are not involved. At times the emphasis on what we do leaves no room in the public’s perception for what we know and our ability to maximize the knowing and doing of others. However, our in-depth client relationships enable us to be effective health care leaders with individuals, communities and nations. In my vision, there is no service without effective decision making in which nurses are key players. With a vision of nursing shaping and leading in health care, public health could lead the world health agenda. I see nurses as designers, monitors and caregivers in this health care system. To accomplish this, Christian nurses should daily demonstrate the power of Jesus Christ. This includes four types of power. Informational power includes the message of hope, salvation and eternal peace that is skillfully communicated through the words and behaviors with mutual respect across race, age, gender faith and other areas of diversity. Legitimate power comes through our license to practice, but more so through the blood of Christ and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Charismatic power enables us to show the joy we have in serving Christ through delivering quality care to patients with smile power and pure enjoyment in healing. Extended power is inviting others to join God’s family. It is not enough that we are heirs to the incredible power of a living Savior; we must share it, pointing the way to salvation and praising the son of God, Jesus Christ. Looking to nursing to bring health to individuals, families, communities, and nations.

Presentation Notes
The tradition in which I was raised had a very cerebral theology. Satan was acknowledged; but not often spoken about. Satan alive and well and at work Deceiver – spirituality, energy therapies, health/wealth gospel Pride and individualism – Taking the place of God, taking credit for what God has done Listening to and trusting God -- not limiting God to my understanding. My journey into knowledge of the spiritual world.

Job – The problem of Evil

Justice –Getting what you deserveMercy –Not getting what you deserveGrace –Getting what you don’t deserve

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Beginning of my spiritual journey. How can a good God allow evil? Either he is not good, or he is not God. High school English teacher questioned God’s existence because of evil allowed in the world. Time declared God is Dead on its cover. Seeking justice. Studied Job in Wheaton’s apologetics class. No answer to why God allows evil or bad things to happen. God is God, the creator of the Universe, I am the created with designed limitations. Evil/injustice can either increase my faith and draw me closer to God or cause me to deny him. Students today about social justice. Focus on Grace not justice. Spencer Perkins and Chris Rice.

HIV/AIDSAbstinenceBe faithfulCondoms (if necessary)Christ

Presenter
Presentation Notes
During the war, HIV/AIDS pandemic became evident. Seemed very unjust. Was God punishing Uganda? Homosexuals in the US? Ted Green described 10 years later Abstinence Be faithful Condoms if necessary Over time came to realize that it should have been Christ. Success in Uganda was because God intervened and answered prayers. God’s redeeming work. God’s design requires fidelity between man and woman Sin prevents us from following God’s design God provides a way for us through Jesus. The Holy Spirit enables us to live as God designed. In gratitude, we are to tell others about Jesus and them live as God planned
