GC University, Lahore Department of Economics Internationa l Conference on Institutions, Growth and Development in Pakistan Subject: Call for Papers for International Conference on Institutions, Growth and Development in Pakistan   22-23 November 2012 Dear Sir/Madam, The Department of Economics, GC University Lahore is organizing a  two-day International Conference on Institutions, Growth and Development in Pakistan from 22 nd  to 23 rd of November 2012. It is my pleasure to invite you to take part in this event as a contributor. The objective of this conference is to provide a platform for academicians, experienced researchers, young scholars and practitioners to dialogue and exchange their ideas, on how to reach sustainable growth and development in Pakistan. Indeed, the country is facing an increasing number of challenges which are jeopardizing its development and growth. These include public finance, energy crisis, education and health care, underground economy, competitiveness, political and cultural instability, poor water management, poor infrastructure, environmental degradation, poverty, social and economic inequality. All these aspects are a part of development which require the attention of researchers to provide recommendations to the policy makers in order to incentivize growth. Sustainable development requires a well-thought development strategy at local, provincial and national level. A good set of empowered and efficient institutions is equally important and is part of the entire process. The role of government, private sector, SMEs and small individual entrepreneurs, NGOs and international donors has to be (re)defined. The papers submitted for the conference should focus on Pakistan. They can be Pakistan- centered, be a comparative study or case studies from other developing countries with lessons to be learnt for Pakistan. Papers containing applied statistics and/or quantitative approach are welcome. Papers to be submitted should preferably fall under one of the following categories: 1 Historical perspectives and legacies 2  Human Capital, health and education 3 Environment, energy and water management 4 NGOs, community and informal institution 5 Institutions, Corporate governance 6  Role and limits of International Institutions and MNCs 7 Corruption and National Economy 8  Industrialization process in sustainable development 9 International trade 10 Foreign Aid
