California State University, Fullerton Student Wellness 2016-17 Peer Health Educator Application The Peer Health Educators within Student Wellness serves to promote healthy behaviors and practices to fellow California State University, Fullerton students. Certified Peer Health Educators (PHE’s) are paraprofessionals who are trained to provide presentations and coordinate campus outreach events on a variety of health topics affecting the CSUF student population, including sexual health, alcohol, marijuana, and other drug information, nutrition, physical fitness, sleep health, and mental health. Roles & Responsibilities Serve as student assistant to the Health Education and Promotion Department ü Represent Student Wellness at outreach events, Hut trainings & events, and Student Life Orientation presentations. ü Act as a Hut lead when needed. ü Assist in HEP Departmental needs (i.e. Make copies, produce buttons, maintain brochure wall, etc.) Coordinate health education outreach events in conjunction with HEP Staff ü Coordinate health education events annually which may be included as a part of one of the following: (Events may occur in partnership with or at the request of campus partners.) o CSUF Health Fair, National Nutrition Month, STD Awareness Month, etc. ü Identify student learning outcomes for health education events ü Develop & implement assessment of health education events ü Create Talking Points and educational materials for Hut messages Nutrition & General Health Focus ü Identify student learning outcomes for nutrition events and workshops ü Develop & implement assessment of nutrition events ü Create or update Talking Points and educational materials for Hut messages Administrative coordination of HEP’s weekly nutrition workshops ü Serve as lead Nutrition Advocate (1 workshop weekly) ü Assist with weekly scheduling of presenters and student attendance for weekly nutrition workshops; serve as primary backup for presenters when ill or absent ü Prepare and organize educational and promotional materials for workshops ü Co-create pre/post-test for student attendees and input assessment data in SPSS Plan and organize the fall Flu Fighters OR spring Health Fair in conjunction with HEP Staff ü Co-facilitate (with Advisor) event planning meetings with vendors, campus partners, and Student Wellness staff ü Identify student learning outcomes for health fair participants, and implement evaluation of health fair in conjunction with advisor ü Update marketing and educational materials (posters, flyers, kits, etc.) and execute comprehensive campus marketing strategy ü Recruit and co-train volunteers Sexual Health Focus ü Identify student learning outcomes for sexual health events and workshops ü Develop & implement assessment of sexual health events and workshops ü Create or update Talking Points and educational materials for Hut messages
