President’s MessageDear Colleagues,

More than a thousand California State University faculty and students marched on the CSU Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach on November 17, 2015. A few short months later, tens of thousands of faculty prepared for what was to be the largest strike in U.S. higher education history. Just days before we hit the picket lines, CFA secured salary increases for all faculty. Throughout it all, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder, speaking with one voice in an effort to protect quality public higher education.

Our union has accomplished great things in our recent past, but we’re not finished. We will continue to fight on behalf of our students—for access, affordability and quality. We will maintain the caliber of teaching and learning that makes the CSU among the best university systems in the nation. And we will fight for the faculty—to increase tenure-track density, advocate for pay

equity, and create manageable workloads.Though we are celebrating at the start of this academic year, we know that come spring, we’ll once again be heading into contract bargaining. We will not grow complacent; instead, we will use this time to cultivate our strength.

If you are a member and have colleagues who have yet to join CFA, encourage them to do so today. If you’d like to join our union, go to calfac.org/join-cfa today. Together, we will defend the People’s University.

In Union,

Jennifer Eagan, CFA PresidentProfessor, Cal State East Bay
