Fiscally, we’re in the best position in decades.

• 10.7% of Proposition 98

• Proposition 1D– 50% for CCC, plus Field Act changes

• Great deal of support from Governor, Legislature

• Next: Need a 20:20 Vision -- Increase funding to 80% of Real Cost by 2020.

Community College Initiative

• Fixes “broken” Prop. 98 Formula– Not a panacea.– Results in increased per student funding above current law of about $750 after five years.

• Need:– 598,105 valid signatures

• How:– 750,000 paid (75% validity)– 100,000 volunteer (50% validity)

• Signature campaign cost:– $1.5 million

• Volunteer drive– Christine Chavez hired by League as Statewide Director

– 78,000 petitions distributed (6 signatures per petition)

• Paid drive (as of yesterday):– 475,000 paid signatures collected– $1,100,000 raised

• Run out of cash this week.

• Five districts have reached or exceeded their goals– Copper Mountain, Kern, Los Angeles, Los Rios, Mt. San Antonio, West Kern

• Eight more have exceeded 50% of their goal

• Seventeen have done nothing.
