DescriptionThe Bacharach Calibrator CD3provides the diesel fuel injectionspecialist with a fast, safe andextremely accurate means ofcalibrating Cummins and DetroitDiesel injectors to achieve peakengine operating efficiency. Thisfloor standing unit is the onlycalibrator available that canaccommodate both Cummins andDetroit Diesel injectors. Accessoriesare available to mount and cali-brate a full range of these injectors.

OperationTo ensure fast and accurate opera-tion; the following features are incor-porated in the Calibrator CD3:

Digital Fuel Delivery DisplayFuel delivery is measured using thepatented* positive displacementflowmeter. The fuel delivery displayhas a 0.1 mm3/stroke resolution andis updated continuously to enhancetest repeatability and speed of opera-tion.

Drive SystemThe stand is driven by a 5 horsepowersynchronous motor with flywheelthat ensures uniform cam rotationmaintaining speed at ±1 RPM. Pre-cision ground cams used to actuatethe injector have exact profiles, asspecified by the injector manufac-turer. Speed change is achieved byswitching the drive belt between twopulley sets. Cast iron cam box fea-tures tapered roller bearings and per-mits quick changeover of cams.

Calibration Fluid SystemThe fluid reservoir is thermostati-cally controlled to plus or minus 1°F.Filtration is through one primary andone final stage filter with an addi-tional screen at the transducer.

Clamping DevicesA hydraulic clamping device is usedfor plunger-to-body clamping onCummins injectors and body-to-sup-port clamping on Detroit Diesel in-jectors. A clamp monitor gauge andtiming light indicate when the injec-tor is properly clamped. Dual air cyl-inders achieve the body-to-seatclamping of Cummins injectors anda monitor indicates proper clamping.

Injector Supply (Rail) PressureThis critical parameter is monitoredby a precise 0–200 psi gauge. Thepressure is adjusted by using a pre-cision regulator on the front panel.
