The Mini-chart MR chart recorder gives the consumer greater flexibility, as all the parameters are user selectable. You can now select the temperature range and rotation speed, so you can get the best range for your application.

The BSA has been specifically designed to be M.H.R.A compliant for Blood Storage Refrigerators.

It has two temperature alarm functions, one ALERT and one ACTION.

It uses PT1000 probes which monitor ambient air temperature in the refrigerator and the second probe can be placed in a glycol solution which simulates the product (Blood).

The BSA provides clear audible and high visibility alarms. Connections are via vibration

The Abacus Range of displays are capable of using a host of process inputs and displaying the values. Which make them ideal not only for temperature displays but process industries where clear indications of parameters are essential.

This range of displays has been designed to give maximum visibility in areas of high ambient light. The large LED digits (100mm xLD / 60mm LD) make for easy reading at a distance.

ABACUS GUARDIAN™

To achieve a complete monitoring and alarm system one or more Guardian Units are installed in the field either as a fixed, or mobile system. Each GU has up to 14 analogue inputs and 10 digital inputs which can be wired to any industrial sensor. Each of these sensor inputs can have alarm values set. There are also relays incorporated to provide local control or alarm actions. The relays can be associated with any input or controlled remotely by internet or mobile phone. There are also GU’s for use with radio sensors and pulse counter inputs.

The GU’s communicate to the web server using their onboard GPRS modem so that hard wired connection to a network is not required. They have on board battery

backup to operate up to 24 hours without external power. These can be kept charged by DC or AC power, or by solar cells.

Data and configuration are accessed by logging onto the web site using password and logon ID. The web site also provides facilities to set local control or alarm parameters, manage passwords and access permissions, input telephone numbers and email addresses for alarm notification and calibration of the inputs. Alarm messages can be sent to selected mobile phones by SMS text message or email.

Instantaneous data and alarms may also be obtained from the GU’s automatically or on request from authorized mobile phones.

The Abacus radio datalogging system uses wireless base station dataloggers to receive and store radio transmitted values from up to 50 temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide sensors.

With the AB500 or AB1000 base stations powered by a battery backed DC power adapter it is possible to log readings without a computer connected. Each sensor refreshes it’s value every 45 Seconds (approx). With one sensor the maximum PC independent recording length is about 110 days. With 10 Sensors it is still 11 days.

Data can be retrieved from the base stations via USB using the software provided. Alternatively, the AB1000 can be connected to a private network and accessed via its onboard web server.

The easy to use software presents the temperature measurements with time and date graphically. The Software keeps track of the data over several years and will log data (in the background) as long as your computer is running. The logged measurements can be exported in several formats for further processing.

Mini Calibration Bath

The mini temperature calibration bath is a safe compact, no frills, tabletop device that can cool liquid to 0°C (+/- 0.5°C) or heat water to 56°C (+/- 0.5°C). It can be used to check the accuracy of a thermometer and probe when used in conjunction a with a Reference Thermometer with current UKAS certificate of calibration. Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005The Cold Chain & Calibration of Monitoring / Recording Equipment

• The cold chain for the hospital transfusion laboratory starts from the receipt of the blood from the blood centre to the time the unit is transfused or otherwise disposed of.

• GDP (Good Distribution Practice) requires us to – “ensure that storage conditions are observed at all times, including during transportation”

• Cold storage

o Temperatures should be measured continually

o Continuous 24 hour, 365 day monitoring for temperature alarm conditions

o Defined procedure for responding to alarms, and contingency arrangements for dealing with stock in prolonged alarm situations

o Maximum and minimum recorded daily

o Accuracy of ± 0.5°C

o Consider the location of the equipment

o Red cell components must be stored within the temperature range

• 2 - 6°C core temperature

o Chart recorder, digital readout, max/min thermometer, central monitoring system, BUT whichever you choose will need to be calibrated annually and you will need an in date cer tificate for the calibration equipment, traceable to National Standards.

Temperature Mapping

• All equipment controlling temperature must be temperature mapped once a year.

• The test must have a duration of at least 24 hours and should, for the smallest of storage equipment, include a minimum of 3 points which will normally be at least the centre chamber, top and bottom. The number of probes must be sufficient to comprehensively cover the area being mapped, therefore for equipment such as larger fridges, dual chamber fridges and walk-in cold rooms the number of probes should be increased based on a documented scientific justification. In the case of larger equipment, it is expected that mapping locations will normally be at least the centre chamber, and the 4 corners top and bottom of the parts

of the cabinet used for storage. Mapping exercises should include correlation between the routine probe readings and the mapping probes to demonstrate that any condition shown by the routine probes will be representative of any extremes seen i.e. the routine probes must be demonstrated as being in the hot and cold spots of the bank.

• The cabinet can be used during the test. The amount and type of product in the cabinet during the test must be recorded with the test results.

• The minimum mapping probe calibration tolerance is ± 0.5°C and the frequency of temperature logging to be no longer than 5 minutes.

Abacus Instruments provide a return to factory calibration service for all temperature chart recorders and portable temperature equipment. This includes all make of thermometers, temperature recorders and data loggers from any manufacturer.

Each UKAS Certificate indicates the deviations from standards at various check points, the standard being -18,0,40,70 and 100°C with a guaranteed uncertainty, dependant on the probe type.
