Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers Summer Student Jobs – 2018
The Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers is an inclusive, non-profit, arts-based society that exists to
fuel filmmakers, support storytellers, and connect the cinematic community. CSIF’s vision is to be a
destination community for independent film production, exhibition, and for people who love cinema.
We are now accepting applications for three full-time summer students for 2018. All three positions will be
14-week contracts, at $15/hour and 35 hours/weeks. Start date will be May 22, 2018. The positions
advertised are as follows:
• Coordinator, Diversifying the Voices in Celluloid Program
• Coordinator, Communications & Promotion
• Coordinator, Equipment & Production
All three positions are contingent on funding from Canada Summer Jobs.
Changes in funding will typically affect the length of the contract and/or the number of hours per week,
not the hourly rate.
These positions are only open to returning students (students who were enrolled in classes in 2017/18 and
will be enrolling again in 2018/19). The application deadline for all three is April 27, 2018 @ 5:00PM.

Coordinator, Diversifying Voices in Celluloid Program
Application Deadline: April 27, 2018 @ 5PM
Diversifying the Voices in Celluloid is a new program for CSIF aimed at mentoring Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth in the art of small format celluloid filmmaking (Super 8 & 16mm). This program addresses the local priorities of providing cultural programming for Indigenous communities and youth.
Working closely with the Programming Director, the Diversifying Voices in Celluloid Program Coordinator will handle all logistics for the program. Duties will include:
• Communicating with instructors, registrants, and their families • Ensuring space and equipment is booked and available • Managing volunteers and assist in documenting the program • Consulting on improving the program for future years

Qualifications:
• A self-starter with a positive attitude and good interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to multi-task • Knowledge, experience working with and/or strong interest in Indigenous Relations, Arts
Administration, or Film • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Mac OS X • Knowledge of celluloid film production is an asset, but not necessary

Coordinator, Communications & Promotion
Application Deadline: April 27, 2018 @ 5PM
The Coordinator, Communications and Promotion will work in the CSIF office and will be the first point of contact for CSIF members & the public at large. Working under the supervision of the Communications Director, the Coordinator would be responsible for (but not limited to):
• Disseminating information via social media, newsletters, and community outreach • Managing volunteers • Creating documentation of programming events • Communications research, website copy writing, photo editing and data entry
All job duties and tasks respect individual human rights in Canada, including the values underlying the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as other rights. Qualifications:
• A self-starter with fantastic verbal & written communication skills • Detail orientated and an ability to multi-task • Knowledge, experience with and/or strong interest in Communications, Social Media, Film or Arts
Administration • In-depth knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram • Interest and knowledge of different film and arts & culture events happening in the community • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Mac OS X • Knowledge of programs like Mailchimp, Slack, and Hootsuite is an asset, but not necessary

Coordinator, Equipment and Production
Application Deadline: April 27, 2018 @ 5PM
The Coordinator, Equipment and Production, will work directly with our Production Director on a long overdue initiative to barcode all of our film and media equipment (including editing suites and tables), determine the maintenance required for each piece of equipment, and assist in either repairing, sourcing repairs, or replacing equipment on an as-needed basis. This is an excellent opportunity for the young film and media student to learn about all the technical aspects of the film and media industry. Duties will include:
• conducting an initial inventory of equipment housed at the CSIF office • cataloguing and barcoding every piece and item • inputting barcodes to our data base • sourcing scanning software and hardware • developing a system to capture barcode information with each rental • Reporting to the Production Director on maintenance requirements.

• A self-starter with a positive attitude and good interpersonal and communication skills • An interest and ability to organize, catalog, and sort a wide variety of film equipment • A familiarity with different types of film equipment • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & Mac OS X • Interest in pursuing a career related to film production is an asset but not necessary
