CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM(For UG courses)
A choice-based credit system set in place by theuniversity is proving to be the ideal method to narrow downthe gap between education and employment. The systemfacilitates students to move from one discipline to another.A student can choose from a variety of courses as electives, get due credits and qualify for graduation. While core coursesare part of the main discipline, the electives come frommany other disciplines.
As per the draft regulations of the CBCS for UG andPG courses, the CBCS is a flexible system of learning.‘Credit’ defines the quantum of contents/syllabus prescribedfor a course and determines the number of hours ofinstruction required. The CBCS permits students to learnat their own pace, choose electives from a wide range ofelective courses offered by the departments of the affiliatedcolleges, undergo additional courses and acquire more thanthe required number of credits, adopt an inter-disciplinaryapproach in learning, and make the best use of the expertiseof available faculty. In the case of UG courses, a studentwould have to pass in all the papers and practical by earning140 credits in all five parts for being declared passed in thewhole examination. In the case of PG courses, a candidateshall be eligible for the award of degree only if he/she haspassed the examinations of all the four semesters, earning90 credits.
