Hello Dear Parents and Carers This Wednesday evening our Christmas Concert will be held on the school oval at 5:30pm. We hope to see you there to share in the Christmas festivities. It was lovely to see many parents pop into the Hall this morning to allow us to share morning tea with you by way of a small gesture of thanks for all you do to support the teachers, your childs learning and P&F events. A big thank you to several of our music students who played background music to add to the ambience this morning. On Friday afternoon after school all the Music Students who learn from Keyed Up Music tutors displayed their talent at an end of year concert. It was a fabulous opportunity to see our talented young musicians and singers display their progress. Next Wednesday our Music Coordinator, Stephanie Freeman and Cathy Cotton will hold a concert for their students. It also promises to be very entertaining. Stephanie is to be congratulated on the fantastic job she has done of promoting and coordinating the music instrumental programme within the school. Stephanie also provides an after school choir session on Monday afternoons for children who want to attend – all from the goodness of her heart. She oversees the Christmas Nativity Concerts and on occasions invites students to lunch time jammingsessions. She is constantly on the look out for purposeful opportunities to utilise the musical talents of our students. This Friday is the last whole school mass for the year and it is the one where we thank God for the year that has been. We will also be celebrating the many years of service to the St Johns Community by one of our retiring staff members, Yvonne Rudrum. It would be delightful if you could join us at 2pm for the mass. Art News Over the next week every student will be bringing home all of their fabulous artworks that have been completed over the year. I have encouraged the children to choose an appropriate time to sit down with you and show you their work and discuss their pieces. There are certainly many masterpieces worthy of being framed and they could make a lovely Christmas gift.

Please send the A3 plastic sleeves that the work comes home in back to school by Tuesday Week nine. Have a safe and joyful Christmas break. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year, ready to continue to create amazing artworks.

Keyed Up Music – Instrumental Concert

Last Friday our instrumental students wowed parents, peers and teachers with their musical talents. We were entertained by a variety of items on piano, drums, saxophone, guitar, ukulele, and voice. The hard work and dedication of each student

under the guidance of their tutor was evident.

As mentioned at the end of the concert I am so proud of each student’s willingness and bravery to stand up in front of a large audience and perform, some having only had 3 or 4 lessons this term.

Thank you to all parents, family members, peers and staff who supported our instrumental students. It is this support that encourages our students to enjoy the rewards that come with playing a musical instrument. Thank you to each student that performed on the day – it was exciting to watch your enthusiasm on stage. Also, thank you to our Keyed Up Music tutors – Noriko, Jess, Alex, James and Ciaran your weekly commitment to our students is greatly appreciated. It is evident that the passion and dedication you have for your instrument motivates our students and you have brought a lot of life and joy to instrumental music at St John’s Primary School.

I look forward to the continuing journey of all our instrumental students and what 2018 has in store for each of you,

Mrs Freeman

St John’s 2017 CHRISTMAS CONCERT

This Wednesday (November 29th, 2017); 5.30pm

Please join us on the oval with a picnic dinner and support our students in Year 1 to 6 perform the Christmas story and Christmas tunes.

Year 1 to 3 students have been asked to come dressed as an Angel or Shepherd. Students who have been given a speaking part in the nativity will be able to use the costumes we have at school. There are also some spare costumes and Angel/Shepherd props for students who may need them. If you need help with costuming on Wednesday evening please meet Mrs Rudrum in the School Hall.

Year 4 to 6 students have been asked to come dressed in “Christmas Cheer” – dark bottoms with a colourful Christmas top (or a top in Christmas colours). Students are encouraged to “jazz” their outfit up with Christmas accessories they may have at home – headbands, hats, earrings etc.

We hope to see you all there, Warm regards, Mrs Freeman

Kindy & PrePrimary The Kindy and Preprimary were so lucky today to have a visit from the Christmas fairy. The Christmas fairy told us the story of the " Gumnut Babies Christmas" and we sang the 12 days of Christmas together as a group. We danced to bush music with brightly coloured ribbon and had a fabulous time at the Christmas play. We can't wait for Christmas. Kindy and Pre-Primary

Christmas Eve Children’s Mass

The 5:30pm Mass will be presented differently this year. The children will continue to do all the readings, take up the Offertory and wear clothing, as usual.

Replacing the dramatized Christmas story, Father Ben would like all the children to lead the Entrance procession and remain seated around the front altar area until the Homily. They will then return to their family. The children will again lead the procession at the conclusion of the Mass.

There will be no rehearsals for the 5.30pm Mass.

Children wishing to dress in Christmas story clothing are asked to go to the Parish Centre prior to the Mass where the clothes will be available.

The Readings will be practised next week once names have been sent in.

Please email the Mrs Rudrum or the school ASAP if you would like your child to participate in the Mass.

PICNIC ON THE GREEN

Friday, 16th February 2018

The Children's Museum of Western Australia is coming!

Have your say about how we create The Children's Museum of Western Australia.

Thursday 30th November. 6pm - 8pm.

Level 5, 863 Hay Street. Perth, WA Speaker panel and Sundowner.

This is for parents, educators, politicians, and anybody who wants to help

make a difference.

What is a Children's Museum and how will it benefit families in WA? Children's museums curate experiences. They are, essentially, indoor pro-

grammed play spaces. Museums can be defined as public spaces in which people learn, at CMOWA

children will learn through play - and the bonus is they won't even know they are learning as they will be having so much fun!

They introduce families with young children to the concept of a museum, with the general understanding that these children will grow up and become patrons

of other museums.

Complimentary food and drinks for guests who confirm their attendance via Eventbrite.

MEET THE SPEAKERS:

DI WILCOX: Di needs little introduction - a mother, a teacher and winner of 'Momentum Most Inspirational Women in 2013', Di's passion in life "is to uplift, inspire and educate young

people, their families and teachers with social/emotional and life skill workshops and events that will assist them to understand and deal with issues associated with emotions, self worth,
