bondi beach boy blueby Benny McDonnell

Declan is set to become another Kilkenny hurl-ing great until fate intervenes and he bolts for Ireland’s Antipodean outpost: Bondi. Bondi Beach Boy Blue is the story of his relationships with the important people in his life, the story of the prob-lems he ran away from in Ireland and what he ran into in Australia. It is the story of a small town hero forced from his comfort zone and having to find his place on a larger stage.

SECOND AGE PRESENT

philadelphia, Here I come! Directed by Alan Stanford

Philadelphia, Here I Come! is a coming of age story. Gar O’Donnell’s prospects of a tedious existence at home and a luckless love life, have driven him to seek a better life in America. the Jeff & Vida bandJeff Burke and Vida Wakeman began perform-ing in the bars and clubs of New Orleans in 1998. Their different backgrounds and shared love of American roots music helped them create a unique sound that fuses blues, country, rock & roll and bluegrass, and can only be described as Americana. The Jeff and Vida Band’s live per-formances showcase Vida’s powerful voice, Jeff’s superb picking on mandolin, guitar and banjo, Mike Kerwin’s slap-you-in-the-face bass playing and tight, well arranged harmonies. glór friends

the Duhks featuring aoife o’DonovanThe Duhks, from Canada, have been riveting audiences across North America and around the world. This is not surprising, given their blend of soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco and the way they interweave these acoustic styles. They take the music of their children and grandchildren’s generation, and sing it like you’ve never heard it sung before. From The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Radiohead and OutKast, they dispel the myth that the ‘golden years’ are spent playing bingo and gardening. From start to finish, Young @ Heart charmed and pleased, hamming it up more than most stand-up comedians and entertaining the

Duke special with bandGloriously vintage and unlike any other artist, Duke Special is a fervent performer who harks back to the pre-rock ’n roll era with dashes of Gershwin and orchestral swing. Dynamic, musically ambi-tious and bracingly eccentric, he’s right on cue with his inimitable style and lush musicality. Expect favourites such as ’Brixton Leaves’, ’Slip of A Girl’, ’Last Night I Nearly Died’ and ’Freewheel’. Duke Special is once heard, never forgotten.

Jack l A singular talent, Kildare man Jack Lukeman’s last performance in glór in May 2006, was a sell-out. His music is genre defying and to try to pigeon hole him a crooner or storytelling troubadour is a pointless exercise. His voice is three-dimensional in that he can go from a seducing whisper to an internal organ-shaking operatic top note, effort-lessly. Expect a stage presence and performance like nothing you have experienced before.Early booking advised. glór friends

concrete, steel & bronzeNEW SCuLPTuRE AND DRAWINGS By HOLGER LöNzE & AOIFE FITzGERALD

Holger Lönze’s sculptures and drawings are concerned with the poetics of the journey, reflecting on both ancient and contemporary experience. He previously exhibited in the glór gallery with Through Time & Tide, an exhibition of Currach styles in Ireland. Born in Germany, he has worked as artist-in-residence for Cavan County Council and Craigavon Borough Council.

Aoife Fitzgerald has been working long-term with line, mass and negative space. Her drawings beautifully capture the energy and vitality of the city and the haphazard meeting of old, new, utilitarian and quirky. Originally from Dublin, she now lives and works in Co. Clare.

glór is home to a great gallery space that holds excel-lent visual art and occasional applied art exhibitions. Our exhibitions have been extremely successful, not

to mention award-winning. Exhibitions of note include,

Airborne Drawings by Samuel Walsh, (Oct 03); Inis Oírr by Mick O’Dea RHA (Oct 04); New Works 2005, Manus

Walsh (Nov 05); Texaco Children’s Art Competition (04

- 06); the annual Clare County Arts Office Embrace Scheme and of course our Selects…series, which

comprises a major invited artists’ exhibition curated

by an established well-known artist, such as Lorraine

Wall, John Shinnors and Walter Verling. If you would like to be included in our visual arts database

máirín Kelly - aspectKelly’s work reflects on the local and global interests in our landscape from an environmental and visual perspective. Much of the work is informed by diverse pressures on the uplands in the forms of afforestation, windfarms, and indeed in the different forms of ecology and conservation, thus illustrating the contested space the land has become. Aspect comprises a series of various habitat drawings and a group of peat paintings. The use of peat from the uplands locates the work. using simple materials, the boundary between art and nature is blurred.
