With Advent starting this weekend, the cycle of

the liturgical year is beginning anew. It’s such a

busy time of preparing our hearts and homes,

trying to make sure we get everything ready be-

fore Christmas. Here at school, we are immersed

in preparatory activities as well. The 5th graders

are helping with the church giving tree as part of

their confirmation project, school confessions will

be heard next week, and classes are creating special art projects to celebrate advent.

Despite how beneficial all these activities at home and school are, I am challenging

each family to set aside a few quiet minutes amidst the bustle of the season, and em-

brace the Christmas story in your hearts. Jesus didn’t come into the world with sancti-

monious fanfare, but in the humble quiet of ordinary life. So too, should we invite Him

into the quiet of our hearts. God bless you all, Sr. Janelle

The Giving Tree sponsored by the

Martyrs 5th grade Confirmation class

will be in the church narthex. Gifts will

be distributed through Catholic Social

Services to children ages 1 to 12 in

need. If you wish to participate, take an ornament,

purchase the gift item (use SCRIP!), and return the

unwrapped gift with the ornament attached to

the church by December 17th. Thank you!

Martyrs sweatshirts, t-shirts, and polo shirts are available now; use the web-site below. Place your order by Mon-day, December 4. Our new sweatshirts and t-shirts make great Christmas gifts, and these orders will be delivered be-fore the Christmas break. https://stores.inksoft.com/

The annual “Pre-Christmas Concert” will be happening again before each Christ-mas program this year. If your child has a Christmas song they have been learning with a private instructor (piano, violin, guitar, etc.), I will have a sign up on my door starting November 27th. Students will play their song for me the week of De-cember 4th (times will be announced on my door December 1st ). Email me with any questions [email protected]

Join us for Hour of Code at Nebraska Innovation Campus from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

on Saturday, December 9. The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction

to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can

learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It

has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting

with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Stop

by our Tech Fair, visit interactive booths and connect with mentors from local technology companies to help

you get started in programming. It’s all about coding and it’s FREE!!! You can register at: http://

codelnk.org/ For coding activities, please bring your own computing device (laptop, tablet or smart phone).

A limited number of computing devices will be available for use.

For all the families who helped us with

clothes and economically on our arrival in

Nebraska, I don’t have enough words to

express how I feel about all the help my

family received since our arrival.

Thanks for making us feel welcome in this

totally new world. God bless you today,

tomorrow and always.

As we say on my island of charm, Puerto

Rico. Today for me, tomorrow for you.

Blessings, The Carde Family
