Anthem(8:15) My Faith Looks Up to Thee arr. Don M. Dicie (pub. 2005)

My faith looks up to thee, thou lamb of Calvary, Savior Divine! Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away, o let me from this day be wholly thine! While life’s dark maze I tread, and grief around me spread, be thou my guide; bid darkness turn to day, wipe sorrow’s tears away; nor let me ever stray from thee aside. When ends life’s transient dream, and death’s cold sullen stream shall o’er me roll; blest savior, then in love, fear and distrust remove, o bear me safe above, a ransomed soul.

(9:30) God So Loved the World John Stainer (1840-1901)God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (Jn. 3:16-17)

(11:00) Even Here Mark A. Miller (pub. 2014)At the land’s dark roots, in the farthest deep, where the daylight dims, where no one can reach, can the hand of God, can the voice of love find me even here? I have turned away, I have set my fate, I have run too far, I repent too late, can the hand of God, can the voice of love find me even here? O, to climb again where the eagle flies, where its nest is set in the sunlit skies! Can the hand of God, can the voice of love find me even here? O forgive me, Lord, may I see your face, may I die in peace with a song of praise, can the hand of God, can the voice of Love find me even here?

Earle Dhus, clarinet

(11:00) The Good Shepherd Zebulon M. Highben (pub. 2010)My sheep hear my voice and they follow me; I know them; I give them eternal life. My sheep hear my voice and they follow me, I am the Good Shepherd of all. My Shepherd, you supply my need; most Holy is your name. In pastures green you make me feed beside the living stream. You bring my wand’ring spirit back when I forsake your ways, and lead me, for your mercy’s sake, in paths of truth and grace. And so through all the length of days your goodness fails me never; Good Shepherd may I sing your praise, within your house forever.

Youth Choir; Thomas Schmidt, violin

*Offertory Response Hymn 223 - stanza 4 HAMBURGWere the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small;love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

*Affirmation of Faith from the PCUSA Study CatechismOne: What is God’s purpose for our lives? All: God wills that we should live by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the love of God, and in the communion of the Holy Spirit. One: How do we live by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ? All: We are not our own. We have been bought with a price. The Lord Jesus Christ loved us and gave himself for us. We entrust ourselves completely to his care, giving thanks each day for his wonderful goodness. One: How do we live for the love of God?All: We love because God first loved us. Amazed by grace, we live for the Lord who died and rose again, triumphant over death, for our sakes. Therefore, we take those around us to heart, especially those in need, knowing that Christ died for them no less than for us.One: How do we understand the love and power of God?All: Through Jesus Christ. In his life of compassion, his death on the cross, and his resurrection from the dead, we see how vast is God’s love for the world — a love that is ready to suffer for our sakes, yet so strong that nothing will prevail against it.

WE GO IN GOD’S NAME

The Service for the Lord’s DayFourth Sunday in Lent

March 31, 20198:15, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP

Greeting Kirsten Homdrom One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

All: And also with you. One: Let us prepare for worship.

Preparation for WorshipEverlasting God, in whom we live and move and have our being, you have made us for yourself, so that our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Give us purity of heart and strength of purpose, that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing your will, no weakness keep us from doing it; that in your light we may see light clearly, and in your service find perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Prelude - The Spruce, Op. 75 No. 5 Jean Sibelius (1865-1957)

Christian Welcome and Announcements Gloria JohnsonPlease pass the Friendship Register to your neighbor and include all requested information.

Call to Worship from Isaiah 43 One: Hear the word of God who once said: “I am about to do a new thing; it springs forth!

Do you not perceive it?”All: With hearts tuned for grace and with ears longing for praise, we wait for the Lord and the new things only God can do.One: This is the day that the Lord has made for rejoicing, worship, and prayer. All: May the Lord open our lips that our mouths shall say words of praise. Let us worship God!

*Hymn 417 - Lord Jesus, Think on Me SOUTHWELL

*Call to Confession

*Prayer of ConfessionMost merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you and others in thought, word, and deed. We have done wrong things. We have left right things undone. The more we sin, the farther we fall away from you. The farther we fall, the more forsaken we feel. Sometimes in despair we even feel “not remembered,” in a word, we feel forgotten. Help us to believe, help us to trust that we are never forgotten. By the grace of your Son help us to to catch glimpses of the paradise of healing, wholeness, and heavenly joy which only the love of God can provide. By your spirit renew us this Lent to live in the light of service and celebration. Forgive our sin, in the name of our Savior, Jesus the Christ. Amen.

*Assurance of Pardon

*Passing of the Peace

*Response Hymn 437 WAYFARING STRANGERYou are the Lord, giver of mercy! You are the Christ, giver of mercy! You are the Lord, giver of mercy!
