Edmonton-TheConfederationofAlbertaFacultyAssociations(CAFA)islaunchingaprovince-wideadvertising
campaignurgingAlbertanstolettheGovernmentofAlbertaknowthatcuttingpost-secondaryeducation
fundingisdestructivetoourprovincesfuture.
ThecampaignwillfeatureadsinanumberofmediaformatsthatshowhowAlbertauniversitiesareacrucial
componentofoursocietyandacornerstoneofourprovince.ItwillalsoincludeawebsitewhereAlbertanscan
voicetheirconcernsaboutcutstopost-secondaryeducationtotheGovernmentofAlberta.

Inits2013-14budget,releasedlastspring,theGovernmentofAlbertacutpost-secondaryeducationfunding
by$147million.TheimpactofthiscutisalreadybeingfeltthroughouttheAlbertapost-secondarysystemas
universities,colleges,andtechnicalinstitutesareforcedtolayoffstaff,closeprograms,andincreaseclass
sizes,saidCAFAPresidentRobSutherland,aprofessorofneuroscienceatUniversityofLethbridge.Asthe
academicstaffworkingattheprovincesresearchuniversities,wearesponsoringthiscampaigntohighlight
theimportanceoftheteachingandresearchgoingonatourinstitutions,andtourgeAlbertanstotellthegovernment,asitpreparesnextyearsbudget,thatitstimetore-investinpost-secondaryeducation.
