The illustrious violinist and conductor Pinchas Zukerman joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in what promises to be an exceptional series of concerts, with great works hand-picked for each programme. The festival culminates in a concert featuring the last three symphonies by Mozart: three masterworks displaying different facets of the composer at the height of his powers.

This December we present a variety of festive entertainment to suit every taste. Traditional carol concerts include The Children’s Trust, The Bach Choir and Goldsmith’s Choral Union.

For young children there is a Christmas-themed Crash Bang Wallop! plus an exclusive performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of The Snow Queen and a brand new magical story for children, The Griffin and the Grail.

For something completely different come along and celebrate Swedish lillejulafton on 23 December or join us on 29-30 December to see some of the best American high school bands get ready for the Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Day Parade.

In January our critically acclaimed series of Beethoven Piano Sonatas played by John Lill continues and in February we are looking forward to a three-day residency with Brussels Philharmonic. A few tickets remain for Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Valentine’s Day Burt Bacharach concert and Choral at Cadogan continues with Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis.

This Christmas-themed concert offers audiences a night to remember! The performance features international virtuoso pianist Tom Poster playing the ever-popular Grieg Piano Concerto alongside Tchaikovsky’s much-loved Romeo and Juliet Overture and The Nutcracker Suite.

The Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London brings the chamber orchestra into the 21st century producing effervescent high-quality concerts. This performance is conducted by Christopher Petrie who has recently performed internationally with the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the Craiova State Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania).

The Temple Church Choir of 12 choir men and 18 boy-choristers shot to prominence with the commission and premiere of John Tavener’s all-night musical vigil The Veil of the Temple.

The centrepiece of this festive programme is Britten’s delightful A Ceremony of Carols. Alongside this masterpiece, the Temple Church Choir sings a programme ranging from beautiful settings of Ave Maria by Elgar and Bruckner, and Byrd’s exhilarating Vigilate to contemporary arrangements of traditional carols.

Bach composed his oratorio in six parts for performance in two Leipzig churches over the Christmas season of 1734. Parts 1 to 3 depict the birth of Jesus, the appearance of the angelic host and the adoration of the shepherds. The tenor soloist sings the words of St Luke’s gospel, aided by the choir as angels and shepherds, and the significance of the Nativity is explored in reflective arias and chorales. From the exultant trumpets and drums of the opening and closing movements to the serene Pastoral Sinfonia, the oratorio is enriched by Bach’s vivid orchestration.

A must for Beethoven devotees, this programme is directed by pianist and conductor Freddy Kempf, who also performs in the Triple Concerto alongside celebrated violinist Clio Gould and Principal Cellist Tim Gill.

Beethoven’s exhilarating Fidelio Overture is a tour de force of orchestral virtuosity. Fidelio, his only opera, generated four overtures; after the three weighty Leonore overtures, Beethoven wanted to write something with a more adventurous spirit, and this joyous piece was the result.

The programme culminates in the regal, Seventh Symphony, famous for its slow movement (used in the film The King’s Speech), which gradually builds from a soft opening into music of thrilling grandeur.

The delicate colours and nuances of Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin offer a gentle commemoration of the anniversary of World War One; Ravel had dedicated each movement in the original piano version to a friend who had died in the conflict.

Behzod Abduraimov, first prizewinner of the London International Piano Competition and his teacher Stanislav Ioudenitch, gold medallist in the Van Cliburn Piano Competition play Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos and after a selection of Dvorák’s folksong-based Legends the orchestra returns to Ravel and enters the enchanted world of the Mother Goose Suite.

Performed by the cast of the Russian State Ballet and Opera Theatre of Komi with a 30-piece orchestra.

After the success of UK performances of La Bohème and Madame Butterfly earlier this year, the Russian State Ballet and Opera House brings you another world class opera, Carmen, an opera in four acts by French composer Georges Bizet, which has become one of the world’s best-loved operas with exciting and memorable music.

It tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by Carmen, a seductive, free-spirited femme fatale.

The music of Carmen has been widely acclaimed for its brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere and orchestration, and for the skill with which Bizet represented, musically, the emotions and suffering of his characters. The Toreador Song is among the best known of all operatic arias.

Wheelchair usersIf you use a wheelchair and wish to transfer to a seat, we regret we may not be able to provide a member of staff to help you physically. However, we will arrange for your wheelchair to be taken away and stored. A lift is located to the right once inside the Box Office reception allowing access to a lowered Box Office counter. Foyer areas are on the same level as the Box Office and the foyer bar (Oakley Room) is accessed via a wide access lift. Seats within the stalls are accessed via a wide lift as are adapted toilet facilities.

The GalleryPlease note the lift provides access to all levels except the gallery seating areas. Gallery seating can only be accessed via the main stairwell. When travelling to and from the gallery seating areas please allow sufficient time in order to be seated at an appropriate time.

Customers with hearing requirementsThe Box Office counter is fitted with a loop system to aid customers with any hearing impairment. The auditorium is fitted with an infra-red amplification system. This is not the same as a Loop System so switching your hearing aid to ‘T’ is not sufficient. You will need to use an amplification aid.

Customers with sight impairmentGuide dogs are welcome to access the hall and auditorium but please do let us know prior to arriving at the hall so we may make any special arrangements if necessary. We produce CD versions of this brochure.
