Diagram Data Miner

The2014Q4releasecontainsanewtoolforallDiagramusers –DataMiner. The tool is eas-ily configurable and can extract all kinds ofdatafromDiagramtoExcel.Itconnectsdirect-ly to theDiagramSQLdatabase andextractsall the information to Excel.Users can createExcelsheets forallavailableobject typesandextractedfieldscanbeeditedfordifferentre-porting andanalysisneeds. Predefinedviewsareincludedalreadyintheinstallationformainobjecttypes,e.g.armatures,equipment,instru-mentsandelectrics.

New way to define special 3D isometric symbols for complicated geometries

In 2014Q4 there is an option to create spe-cial3D iso symbols for standardcomponentswith complex (flexible) geometry types.Nowevenspecialcomponentsthatuseflexgeom-etrytypescanbepresentedintheisoorspooldrawing.Otheradditionalfeaturesincludethedirectionangleofreferencestub-inbranches,containmentinformationinthecontinuelabel,spoolnamesattheendofthepipelinenameinmulti-pipepenetrationattachments,aswellasthebreakIDandthenumberofbreaksusedinnamingrulesofcontainmentisos.

The search function nowhasanadvancedmodewheremultiplecriteriacanbeentered.Forex-ample,itispossibletosearchforallvalvesofacertain type thathavebeenmodifiedduringthepastweek.

Regardlessofwhichwayamodelitemisopened– fromsearch results, froma label in adocu-ment,fromalinkinobjectproperties–thesamefunctionalityisavailableforexaminingtheitem.Also,alldatafromthemodelandexternalsourc-esaswellasassociateddocumentsareshown.

In addition to the existing hyperlink-basedmethod,eShare can now be integrated with other web applications thatuse Javascript.Thisgivestheadditionalbenefitthatexistingbrowsertabsfor an application canbe reused,whichpre-ventsmultipleapplicationtabsfromappearingwhenswitchingbetweentheapplicationssev-eraltimes.Thelinksbetweentheapplicationswork immediatelywithouthaving towait foranyapplicationinitializationormodelloading.

On a recent design project for Wärsilä UAE, Mikael Renström from Elomatic Ltd used the Nupas-Cadmatic Laser Scan Modeller (LSM) for the first time. He was impressed with how much the new tool eased his work and helped him find optimal design solutions.

TheWärtsilä retrofitproject in questionwasan LSGO-conversion of themain boilers foranLNG-tanker thatneeded tobe conductedtomeet strict emissions regulations. It tooksix weeks to produce 230 isometrics/spooldrawingsfromthedateofreceivingthelaserscannedmaterials.

Mr.Rentströmhasabout11years’experienceinusingCadmatic,buttheWärstiläretrofitprojectwasthefirsttimeheusedtheLaserScanMod-eller.

“I hadpreviously usedonly the Point CloudManager (PCM). Thebiggestdifferencewiththe LSM is thegreat improvement regardingthehandlingofpointclouds.Thebubbleviewsmakeitmucheasiertovisualizethedesigninanauthenticenvironment”,saysMikael.

BeforestartingontheprojectMikaelwasshort-lybriefedonthelaserscanmodellingtool.

“MyexperiencewithLSMisthatitisagreatstepforwardcomparedtoPCM.LSMiseasytoworkwithand ismorestablethanPCM.Reviewingthedesign is fareasierand faster.With fasterandmoredirectfeedbackfromthe3Ddesignwehavebeenabletoreduceprojecthours,butmaybemore importantly,wehave improvedourdesignquality.With thebetter visualiza-tionitiseasiertofindmoreoptimaldesignso-lutions”,Mr.Renströmexplains.

With faster and more direct feedback from 3D design we have reduced project hours and improved design quality.

Ingersoll Rand (India) Ltd. has been using Cadmatic software since June 2014. They have been particularly impressed with the in-creased accuracy Cadmatic delivers for iso-metric production.

Ingersoll uses Cadmatic tomodel the utilityhouses of power plants and petrochemicalsplants. ThecompanypreviouslyusedPro-E&AutoCADsoftwaretomodelthepipingworkssuppliedintheirturnkeysolutionprojects,but

decided to implement Cadmatic in order togainmoreefficiency.

AccordingtoMiteshR.ShahfromIngersollthepreparationofisometricsin2Dwasverytimeconsumingandonlyprovidedthemwithabout70%accuracy.

“With thehelpofCadmaticwe cangenerateisometricsandBOMwith100%accuracy.Thissavesustimeandmoneyaswedon’tneedtosendoutextramaterialsanymore”,saysMrShah.

Ingersollcurrentlyhas3–4projectsinthepipe-lineformodelingrelatedtopowerplantsfortheRajasthangovernmentandNTPC.
