n Children in need: children and families living in poverty

• Overall, 1 in 3 children are living in poverty in the UK today.

• Poverty causes a poor quality of life. It brings stress and sometimes also despair.

This Act identifies the needs of children as paramount (that is, of the greatest importance) and attempts to support them in the family by giving ‘parental responsibility’ to one, or more, appropriate person(s).

If you work in a residential children’s home, you will be required to undertake a special induction programme within six weeks of starting work. (This applies to all children's home staff, including any agency, temporary, volunteer and student staff.)
