An office that provides the best of both worlds

Cobalt 22 will be an energy efficient, environmentally sustainable office building without compromising on the quality and efficiency of the office space.

A range of sustainable practices, techniques and technologies have been employed which will reduce the impact of the

building upon the environment. Features such as solar power and rainwater recycling and even the envelope of the building itself have been designed to reduce the amount of energy consumed by the building. This will ensure that Cobalt 22 is kinder to the environment, whilst still meeting the demands of corporate occupiers.

For more than ten years Newcastle has undergone a massive economic and cultural renaissance. It has moved with the times, changing its reliance on heavy industry towards professional services and property whilst maintaining its strong engineering and manufacturing heritage.

The NewcastleGateshead quayside is the epicentre of this regeneration. Both banks of the River Tyne are lined with new houses and apartments, hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and offices as well as superb public buildings and spaces.

Straddling the Tyne is the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. This award winning bridge and international icon is a celebration of the region’s engineering and manufacturing heritage as well as an expression of its creativity.

Major landmark buildings and sculptures such as The Sage Gateshead, the stunning music centre designed by Sir Norman Foster, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Antony Gormley’s iconic ‘Angel of the North’ are all further visible symbols of the successful reinvention of the region.

This success is not just confined to the city centre. Many of the surrounding urban areas have prospered too with the building of stylish new housing developments, shopping centres and leisure facilities, out of town retail and business parks as well as an already excellent transport infrastructure which is continuously being enhanced.

Even the wider area, which includes the beautiful and internationally renowned Northumberland Countryside & Coastline, has benefited from this success with significant new investment for tourism. This is the north’s playground where many enjoy the fruits of their labour. A ‘Secret Kingdom’ of historic castles, Roman forts, country houses, hidden gardens and follies which are a magnet for tourists from around the world.

In short, Newcastle and the North East have many advantages which continue to attract high profile, blue chip companies to the region. A real example of how ‘success breeds success’.

Sustainable transport development is central to Cobalt success

Ensuring staff at Cobalt have an easy, stress free journey to work is an aspect in which the business park has invested significantly. That’s why it has its own dedicated team of on-site travel co-ordinators who work closely with the local transport providers, local authorities and occupiers to deliver a wide range of high quality sustainable transport alternatives.

From the Cobalt Travel Centre the travel team also manage and operate a range of transport schemes and initiatives as well as providing staff with all the information needed to choose the best way to travel to work, this includes:

• individual, personalised travel plans• discounted travel ticket sales• CarSharing scheme• TaxiCall service• Bicycle Users Group (BUG)

Cobalt is set in the heart of North Tyneside and is currently served by over 29 buses an hour providing direct links to Whitley Bay, Blyth, Newcastle, South Gosforth, Killingworth, Cramlington, Wallsend and key areas in Northumberland.

The CobaltClipper is a dedicated branded bus service operating from Newcastle Haymarket Interchange directly to Cobalt and the North East coast to the east, running every 15 mins in each direction.

The R19 service runs directly through the park and connects with every peak time Metro at Northumberland Park Interchange, only a 3 minute journey from Cobalt, the 9/a from South Tyneside at Percy Main and meets every Ferry at the North Shields terminal.

“...Of the current employees at Cobalt, one third are using sustainable ways to access their employment on a daily basis...If we could replicate that across the rest of Tyne and Wear then we would have a massive impact on our environment and congestion levels.”
