appy October! This month and next, we are offering a SPECIAL deal to Beau Chêne homeowners.
Eight years ago, in an effort to encourage BCCC residents to join the Club, we offered the Heritage Golf Membership for a limited time. It is unique in that it is the only membership that can be included with the sale of a Beau Chêne resident’s home, thereby increasing the home’s value. Further, if the seller purchases another home inside Beau Chêne, they can maintain their membership too. Since we have many new residents, we have decided to make the Heritage Golf Membership available for a limited time only once again.
the heritage golf membership offer(Exclusively for Beau Chêne Homeowners)Initiation Fee: $5,000; Monthly Dues: $361.00 (If you prefer, the initiation fee may be paid with $1,000 down, plus 4 payments of $1,000 every 3 months over one year.)

Tennis Newsby John Ballard, Tennis Director
Happy Fall Y’all! What a great month for beautiful weather and even better tennis! Here are some of the events and happenings we
have going on this month...
First, be on the lookout for our 3rd Annual Club Championship Singles and Doubles Tournament beginning the first week of the month. This is a flex format, so you have one week to schedule your match with your opponents. The tournament should last about 6 weeks. I’m excited to see who comes out on top and reigns supreme as the Beau Chêne Club Champion(s) this year!
Second, please mark your calendars and save the date for our annual charity tournament coming up in November. We will be hosting the Boys’ Hope Girls’ Hope Charity Tennis Tournament the weekend of November 14-17. This is a team event and this year we will have men’s and women’s 3.0, 3.5, 4.0+ doubles divisions. This is a great event with lots of tennis, food, and drinks, complete with a silent auction, all for a terrific cause so please come join in on the fun! Our first Pickleball Social will be on Friday October 18th at 6pm. No need to bring anything but yourself! Drinks and all equipment will be provided and childcare will be available as well. More information will be at the tennis desk as it gets closer and there will be a sign-up sheet for anyone who’s interested in playing. We would love to see this catch on and become yet another fun way to enjoy yourself at the Club!
The Junior program is steadily growing with more kids coming out to clinics and matches each week. It’s a terrific group of kids with tons of enthusiasm and I love the energy they bring here to the courts! Coach Oscar will be running the Beau Chêne Junior League this month which was so much fun in the spring. It is so
great to watch when the kids are getting quality practice along with regular weekly match play and some of the points being played are crazy entertaining! We have junior clinics available for all levels and ages so please don’t hesitate to reach out for more information.
Finally, USTA Combo season is winding down and we have multiple teams
competing in this fun league. I can report that Olivia Simpson’s 5.5 team has punched their ticket to State at Shreveport in November. I will give additional updates at the end of the season. If you have any questions or are interested in participating in any of the events or activities we have going on, please feel free to call or stop by the tennis desk at any time...we’d love to take care of you!

I t is finally Fall and I’m hoping the cooler weather is about to greet us! I’m so excited about some upcoming events
and hope you will be too. As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, we are happy to present to you another Wellness Series. This one will be on Mindfulness and the series will be spread over 3 months, with three different topics.
All of the sessions will occur on the 2nd Wednesday of each month starting this
Fitness Memberof the month
This month I’m pleased and honored to highlight one of our Fitness members who has been a member since we opened, Barbara Ryan.
If you work out at the gym, I’m sure you have seen her working out. She is a very dedicated gym goer, always working out either on the cardio machines or doing her weight training. She truly is the definition of a healthy person and it shows. She is one of the sweetest and kindest people I know and is an inspiration for those who would like to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into their daily routine.
month, October 9th from 6:30-7:30pm and will be held in the fitness studio. The first session will be on Acceptance. The second session will be on Wednesday, November 13th on Gratitude and the final session will be held on Wednesday, December 11th on Letting-Go. (BCCC No. 1344).Please save the dates on all three sessions. You can sign up on our Mind/Body app to reserve your space. I feel everyone will benefit from all topics and enjoy the peacefulness you will experience
when you leave.
SAVE THE DATE for our next Yoga on the Lawn Happy Hour! I’m very excited to be able to offer another fun event at the Pavilion on Friday, November 1st from 5:30-6:30. Please grab some of your neighbors and friends and join us as we all enjoy practicing our yoga on the lawn as we view the beautiful scenery of the lake and golf course. This is for all levels, beginners to advance. Sign up on Mind/Body.
How long have you been a Beau Chêne Fitness Member?I joined Beau Chêne’s Fitness Center when it opened. Although it has been quite a few years, I can’t say exactly how long.
With all the options out there for Fitness Clubs, what made you decide to join Beau Chêne’s Fitness Center?Having been a member of one of the large clubs, I appreciated the convenience, smaller size, and friendly feeling of the BC facility.
Have you always worked out? If so, at what age did you start? For many years, I was a “casual” exerciser. Exercise was always the activity I could forego when demands of family and/or career popped up. Then I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and
decided to get more serious about fitness routines. Using the services of a personal trainer has made a significant difference for me. I got serious about fitness in my 60s.
How important is nutrition to you? Is there anything you won’t eat? What is your go-to snack?I think nutrition is extremely important to overall health. Moderation is my guiding principle. Although I generally maintain a diet of fruits, vegetables, low carbs and healthy sources of protein, I also eat red meat in moderation and have the occasional sweet. My go-to snacks are nuts and apples as well as peanut butter or cheese and crackers.
Do you have a fitness goal? If so, what is it?Overall, I exercise to stay healthy.
Specifically, I want to maintain and/or increase bone density.
How many times a week do you work out?Exercise is part of my daily routine. I try to work out at least 5 times per week. Do you have a workout routine? Can you give us an example of your daily/weekly routine?I alternate days of strength training with days of cardio exercises.
What is your favorite exercise? Least? The rowing machine has been a great addition to my routine. I like that it exercises both upper and lower body. The weight machines for upper body are most challenging for me.
What is your favorite part of the fitness center? The fitness center is a very comfortable, friendly place. I like that there are members of various ages and skill levels and not just body building “jocks”.
What is your biggest fitness pet peeve?Getting fit is a process so I don’t see immediate results. Sometimes that is frustrating.

Aqua Zumba Happy Hour!
Fitnesscontinued from page 7 Statistics show that most people start off great when they join a gym, but then after a month or two never go back. What motivates you to keep going?I have seen very good results improving my bone density by doing regular exercise with the guidance of a personal trainer. So, the routines are working for me and that is an incentive to keep going.
How do you feel incorporating fitness into your lifestyle has helped in other ways besides physically?Feeling good physically gives me an overall positive attitude and helps me with the challenges of aging and daily life.
What would you say to people who are residents but not Fitness Members at Beau Chêne?I would encourage anyone to give the BC Fitness Center a try. It is very different from the large clubs – the convenience is great!
Any advice you can offer to those who want to start with a fitness program but just can’t seem to make that first step?
The first step in starting a fitness program is really a mental commitment. Start small and increase activity over time. Achieving some level of physical fitness will greatly improve your quality of life.

What’s Cookin’
he most common question that I’m asked when I tell people I’m a chef is: what is your favorite thing
to cook? To which I usually respond, “I’m in love with food so whatever I’m cooking now is always my favorite!” This is honestly a half truth because secretly my favorite thing to cook is shank.
Truthfully, anyone can cook a tenderloin as long as they don’t overcook it as it is the least used muscle on an animal hence the most tender. To me there is something truly wonderous about taking the most used muscle which is usually the toughest
and turning it into the most tender and delicious dish you’ll ever eat. My love for lamb and cooking shanks combines these two into my truly favorite dish.
I’ll be preparing a “Dinner in the Kitchen” Tuesday, October 8th beginning at 6pm with my favorite dish as the star of the show.
Make ryour eservations early! $40 per person includes the three courses (see menu below) and accompanying wine. Please join me for a night of food, wine, and fun. Bon Appetit!

Golf Course Newsby Ted Smith, Director of Agronomy
hen growing plants in an uncontrolled environment, Mother Nature and mechanized systems
(such as irrigation systems) can both throw unexpected curve balls. This past August, we experienced a slew of different pitches that really made managing our Magnolia Course greens extremely challenging.
On the morning of August 6th, the meter panel on our main pump station for the Magnolia Course literally exploded (please see photo). Fortunately, the St. Tammany Parish fire department was on the scene within minutes and they were able to extinguish the fire quickly, preventing the station from burning down.
Though we were able to link the Magnolia irrigation with the Oak Course irrigation, we had to operate the Magnolia system at half pressure (which meant only watering with less than half the volume of water) for an entire month. During the week leading up to Labor Day, we had no overhead irrigation (we were limited to hand watering) on all of our Magnolia greens due to CLECO taking several days to reconnect the main power to our new meter panel. It wasn’t until Friday, September 6th that we were able to power the station back up and run at full capacity. During that time period prior to September 6th, we had record high daytime and nighttime heat and very little rainfall. These factors led to the decline of several of our greens (notably #7, #8, #10, #11, #12 and #13). In order to stop the decline and speed up the healing process, we sprayed fungicides and nematicides to prevent and control any root borne pathogens from further setting us back. We also arranged 2 different contractors; one which deep tine aerified the greens and the other that Dryjected. The deep tine process used a 3/8” solid tine to penetrate the surface of the greens to a depth of 9”. The Dryject process uses a high tech machine to inject a mixture of sand, nutrients and amendments to a depth of 9”. Both minimally disruptive cultural practices open up poor space and improve drainage, which is extremely beneficial to
W
root growth and overall plant health. From a playability standpoint, the greens will be firmer and smoother. Please know that we are continuing to do everything we can to aid recovery in a timely manner, before the onset of cooler weather, with the least amount of disruption to the putting surface.
This month we will be busy spraying all the fairways, roughs, tees and approaches with a fall pre-emergent herbicide for the control and prevention of Poa annua (annual bluegrass) and other winter weeds in order to provide a cleaner golf course this winter and into next spring. In addition, we will over-seed the driving range tee with perennial ryegrass to provide a lush practice surface throughout the winter.
Around the Club, you may notice the installation of winter annual flowers. We will be planting an array of beautiful flowers and plants including dianthus, pansies, dusty miller, petunias and chrysanthemums. In addition, the lawns in front of the Club, pool and tennis will be over-seeded with perennial ryegrass. As a friendly reminder, please adhere to daily cart rulings (including not driving carts beyond the directional signs in front of the greens and keeping carts on the paths on all par-3s), remember to repair ball marks on greens and fill your divots with sand. This will go a long way in helping us maintain course conditions. If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email to [email protected].
