Deleise Wilson, MA-Ed, Ph.D, RN

Dr. Deleise S. Wilson is Chair of Graduate Nursing at Kettering College. She has over 30 years of combined clinical, teaching and academic leadership experience. Dr. Wilson attributes the success of her professional experiences to being blessed repeatedly, exceedingly and abundantly by our loving and merciful Savior. She is deeply rooted in her favorite texts:

Geneses 1:27, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them.”

Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

She is a proud alumna of Northern Caribbean University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing science. She completed a master’s degree in nursing education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She was granted the prestigious Rackham Merit Scholarship from the University of Michigan for a doctorate in nursing with an emphasis in healthcare systems effectiveness. Upon graduation, she stayed at the University of Michigan after being awarded a competitive post-doctorate fellowship in implementation science. She gained in-depth knowledge and experience on the use of high reliability behavioral resolution models in complex and stressful situations by collaborating with the faculty and officers from the United States Marine Corp (USMC) School of Advanced Warfare. She was also selected for the competitive American Association of Colleges of Nursing sponsored Wharton Executive Leadership program. Dr. Wilson conducted research and published empirical articles in the following areas: high reliability behaviors among charge nurses, the association between safety organizing and perceptions of patient safety culture and targeted fall prevention study. She is currently the principal investigator for a funded Kettering Health Network multi-site study, for the prevention of falls and injuries from falls. Dr. Wilson is involved in several community service programs. Notably, she is the president of the Association of Black Seventh-Day Adventist Nurses. In honor of her service to that organization, she received two congressional awards for leadership from Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Stephen Lynch. She is married to Dr. Colwick Wilson, who is currently serving as the provost and senior vice-president of Oakwood University. Sherine Brown-Fraser, Ph.D., RD

Dr. Sherine Brown-Fraser is a native New Yorker and proud alumna of Oakwood University (’94). She loves the Lord and enjoys seeing others live healthy lifestyles by living life to the fullest. Dr. Fraser completed her doctorate at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, earning the Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in Public Health, with a concentration in Nutritional Biochemistry, becoming the first African American to complete this degree. Dr. Fraser is a research scientist and professor with expertise in cholesterol metabolism, gene-diet interactions (genetic epidemiology) and heart disease risk. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) Certified Personal Trainer, Dr. Fraser is dedicated to advancing health promotion, disease prevention, and eliminating health disparities. Prevention is her motto. #plantsarefuel. Graduating from Oakwood College in 1994 with a B.S. in Biochemistry crystallized Dr. Fraser’s commitment to service, community, and academic excellence. Working as an Interdisciplinary Scientist for the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Dr. Fraser developed national science policies to promote the nation’s health. She also collaborated with leading government officials and scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), United States Surgeon General, and Offices of Minority Health. Formerly as Assistant Professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Fraser co-founded Morgan’s first student-led urban Community Organic Vegetable Garden. Various journals have published her research. Prior to her arrival at Oakwood, Dr. Fraser served as Chair and Associate Professor for the Department of Public Health, Nutrition and Wellness at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She led in achieving full CEPH accreditation of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. One of her richest experiences at Andrews came from working on a heartfelt collaborative research project focusing on nutritional neuroscience, food deserts, and behavior health/violence prevention within an at-risk high school in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Dr. Fraser is very excited about her new role as Professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics within the School of Health Professions at Oakwood University. She provides leadership, vision and direction for the department while teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses central to plant-based (vegetarian/vegan) nutrition and public health. She attributes her accomplishments to the wonderful God she serves, her loving family, and close friends. Dr. Fraser is the daughter of the late James D. Brown and Delva E. Brown, and sister of Jayson S. Brown (’02). Dr. Fraser enjoys the outdoors, traveling, the arts, and spending time with family. She and her husband Dr. Handel Fraser are the proud parents of their precious, active 4-year-old daughter Samantha Juliet.

Joel Kibble

Joel Kibble is an award-winning musician, author and inspirational speaker who travels the world using his art to help people heal. As a musician, he is the second tenor of the award-winning, gospel performing group, Take 6, that was formed in 1980 on the campus of Oakwood College. During his time with Take 6, Joel has written and co-produced several of the group’s most requested songs. This multi-platinum selling group has earned 10 Grammys, 10 Dove Awards and a host of other honors and awards, including two NAACP Image Award nominations. The group has also been active in music advocacy, notably events funded or created by NAMM (The National Association of Music Merchants) which promotes the making of music, music education and music-related products. Life for Joey began in Buffalo, New York; however, his father’s ministry took the family to the South Central Conference In the states of Tennessee and Alabama, a passion for excellence through hard work was engendered in his love for competitive athletics, particularly swimming. Although Joey dropped out of college to join Take 6, he reunited with his alma mater several years later to earn is bachelor’s in Organizational Management from Oakwood University, through the school’s adult degree completion program, called LEAP. His love for writing and performing are part of his soul, and in truths he expresses that “Fame doesn’t fix or fill you.” “Life is so much more than awards and accomplishments.” “Life is about love, acceptance, healing and growth.” When you hear Joey’s lyrics, you hear his heart. He is best known for his collaborative work on Saturday Night Live (1975), Martin (1992), America: A Tribute to Heroes (2001), and Purple Emoji (2019). He travels the world with Take 6, singing to sold-out crowds and enjoys the privilege of working with musical greats such as Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Brian McKnight and many other musical legends. Joey counts it a blessing to make a living with one of his greatest passions—music. He has committed his art to the work of helping people heal, a journey on which he has traveled for many years. He shares his journey with the loves of his life: his wife, Tina, and his daughters, Karly and Aria. The Kibble family currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee. The Office of Adult and Continuing Education is proud to present Joey Kibble as one of its premiere LEAP graduates and alumnus of Oakwood University.
