Greetings to all members, I am writing to you as the caretaker President of the Club. I wanted to bring members up to date on proceedings from our April meeting. Those members who were at the meeting will be aware, that Barry Hall resigned from his position as President during an Executive meeting prior to the general meeting. Whilst we respect Barry's decision, it was certainly a shock to me. It was also a surprise when asked to take the chair for the meeting as Vice President. I would like to take this opportunity, as I did at the meeting to thank Barry for his Presidency and support of the club over the many years. As advised at the meeting that I would be happy to be a caretaker for 2 or 3 months and after being in contact with fellow Executive members. I am advising that the ‘President” position is declared open. Nominations for the position are via the Secretary and at our May meeting. The voting will take place at our June meeting. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing everyone at our May meeting. Regards, Justin Carmody

Information regarding conditional registration changes – provided by Paul Howe Great SMASA Members Meeting last night, the room was packed and we had a surprise visit from Matthew Leyson to answer questions on Conditional Rego changes. We processed over 40 new members or renewals (probably a record). Some clarification that came from Matthew's attendance: - Stat Decs are no longer required, effective immediately. - Rolling 30 years means, if your car is 30 years (or older) in the calendar year starting 1st January, then your vehicle qualifies. So this year we can process cars to 12/1987 (not the previously thought 12/1986). What are SMASA doing to process the conditional rego applications? There isn't much we can do at present until we have more detail from the DPTI AND we have the revised Government forms (MR334). As information comes to hand SMASA will let their membership know via email. In the mean time, we ask everyone to be patient as we work to process everything. For more information on this subject, please follow the link below. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/review-of-car-rego-rules-means-more-classic-cars-can-be-registered-under-the-90-90day-category/news-story/142e2f247f6c8de003fc96fb29261923 A lawyer and a senior citizen are sitting next to each other on a long flight. The lawyer is thinking that seniors are so dumb that he could get one over on them easily. So, the lawyer asks if the senior would like to play a fun game. The senior is tired and just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and tries to catch a few winks The lawyer persists, saying that the game is a lot of fun..."I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me only $5.00. Then you ask me one, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00," he says. This catches the senior's attention and, to keep the lawyer quiet, he agrees to play the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the Earth to the Moon?" The senior doesn't say a word, but reaches into his pocket, pulls out a five-dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the senior's turn. He asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer uses his laptop to search all references he can find on the Net. He sends E-mails to all the smart friends he knows; all to no avail. After an hour of searching, he finally gives up. He wakes the senior and hands him $500.00. The senior pockets the $500.00 and goes right back to sleep. The lawyer is going nuts not knowing the answer. He wakes the senior up and asks, "Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four?" The senior reaches into his pocket, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep. You know you're going to send this one on. Don't mess with old farts!

Look Who We met on Holiday Recently Alice and I went on holiday to Broken Hill. On the second day, we travelled out to Silverton where an uncle of mine is a volunteer at the Gaol museum there. We decided to have something to eat at Penrose Park before going into Silverton. While we were there a 1924 Ford model T stopped at the kiosk. We introduced ourselves to the owner/driver Norm. He had driven the T all over the back country of Victoria and was heading off to Packsaddle a place North of Silverton. He was living the dream and using the T for what it was intended for, being driven. As we were talking with Norm an early model Austin truck stopped behind the T and out stepped Norm’s mate Phil, who was travelling with him in support as well as using the Austin for which it was built. I took some pictures of them both with their vehicles and waved goodbye as they set of down the dusty road to their next destination. Amazing what you get to see and the characters you meet when touring through the back roads. Alice and Graham Farrell.

Copper Coast Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motorcycles Sunday 21st May 2017.

The Copper Coast Classic Cavalcade is held biennially for vehicles built in 1985 and earlier with entrants and spectators enjoying much more than a static display. The event ends a week of festivities at the Kernewek Lowender Cornish Festival. We took the Lincoln and participate in our second time in this event. It was an early start for a Sunday morning leaving Adelaide at 0700 we arrived at the assembly point in Wallaroo at around 0915. We estimated that there was approximately 700 plus vehicles of all makes, models and types all lined up ready for the 1000am start. Following the assembly breakfast, entrants get to enjoy an extensive three town cruise through Wallaroo, Moonta and Kadina which delighted the thousands of spectators who lined the route. We both wore out our arms waving and much anti- inflammatory cream used when we arrived home. The cavalcade finished with a big show and shine at the Kadina oval which featured a licensed venue and offered a fantastic old style rock and roll band with dancing, sideshows, stalls, food and drink. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves meeting up with fellow FOCC club members and making new friends with people sharing similar interests. This is an event not to be missed, we will attend the next one. Top day, top organising and thanks to all for a memorable time. Graham and Alice Farrell

Clare Club Cruise 7th May 2017

Alice and I went on a holiday to Broken Hill so I handed the Club Cruise to Clare to Lee (Mr. Gullible). Our holiday was cut short and we arrived back in Adelaide in time for me to take the Cortina and join other FOCC members for a run to Clare. We gathered at the Caltex Bolivar Gardens ready for a 10:15 departure. We travelled the long way via Port Wakefield and turned off at Lochiel this proved to be a nice scenic route without negotiating a lot of towns on the way. We arrived in Clare in time to enjoy a typical pub meal at the Clare Hotel. Their snitties are a bargain at $10.95 and some had difficulties in eating all on their plate. Their service and food were excellent and I would recommend you stop in and have a meal.

After the meal, some of us walked around the town unfortunately not much open on a Sunday afternoon. We travelled back to Adelaide via the Short route. I would like to thank Lee for organising the day. Very much appreciated by all. Graham Farrell.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE / by MR. GULLIBLE. Greetings all! Here comes the rainy days and time to spend the day in the shed instead of the garden. I am sure we all have those little projects for our rides that we have been thinking about and now it does seem official that we can modify the heck out of our historic cars. Well after the 1st of July! Or should we leave them as originally built? This is very much an individual’s choice but having driven an old unstoppable

block of metal for some years I am keen to fit disc brakes to make the thing stop once and a while. This does not mean radical wheel changes, although I could if I wanted to, and welding stuff to the chassis. Not in my case anyhow as there has been a plethora of upgrade kits on the market for many years. Henry was a man of little waste so most Ford parts are long lived and model interchangeable. I will be fitting a 71 year disc set up as it will still fit a 14” rim over it. I will need to change to a modern rim as the inside profile is higher. To explain the rim, the old style set for conventional tyres had the same profile or lip on the inside of the rim as the outside. This was to form a flat surface inside the rim to accommodate a tube. When radials came out, the tube became a thing of the past so the inner profile was change to give clearance for disc callipers. So here is the best part, the stud pattern is the same. So what does this change to conditional registration mean to the FOCC? I would expect that there will be many discussions at Committee level before consultation with the members. However for those members who have rides that are not quite pure, you can now breathe easy and maybe, just perhaps, you can turn up to some of the vehicle outings without fear of being fingered. The House Build. It is underway, and if the weather Gods listen to my mutterings, and the rain comes in light showers only, a concrete slab will be down by the June meeting. The little 5 ton excavator that came to dig the footings had a hard time so big daddy had to wrestle the rock slab. Made a mess of the trenches though. When I say a rock slab I mean 1 rock and so far it is about 2 1/2 metres wide and 40 metres long. I have been tackling this mini airs rock for about 4 metres in depth. I am sure this house will be going nowhere. While getting things organised I have done some calculations for materials and as an example, for the concrete, it works out that all up there will be 300 ton of the stuff. Help Wanted A new section for my article. In the next few weeks I need to truck some concrete blocks from Salisbury to Kersbrook and I am looking for a willing truck & driver to do the task. A tandem 12 to 15 ton carry would be ideal and it would take about a day and a half. If you are in for it and yes you will be paid, 0488 107 755 To the other side Mr Gullible went on the run to Clare, The Galaxie ran well without any hiccups. The food was excellent but Clare as a tourism town failed. Not even a second hand shop open! The trip back was almost uneventful except when approaching Gawler, the Galaxie once again started to suffer from a lack of fuel. Another mechanical fuel pump bites the dust. This after-market stuff is a little questionable but luckily I had an electric pump still plumbed in so just had to power it up and away we went. MMMm another vehicle modification coming up I think!
