S2 Executive Director’s Message

Brad Ball

Cary Grove ChamberExecutive Director

On October 15, I celebrated my one-year anniversary as Executive Director of the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. What a year it was!

I jumped right into the chamber’s community events calendar with the 2013 Girls Night Out just four days after I started. Then it was on to a hugely attended Merry Cary Holiday Parade & Festival just a few weeks later and I knew we were off to a great

start. Big events in January like the Network Scramble and the Annual Dinner kept our office fast-paced through the holidays.

Following an outstanding Community Showcase, much of the spring time was spent planning Cary Cruise Nights and the Cary Farmers Market – both of which saw their best season’s yet. And as summer got underway, so did creation of the chamber’s newest event, Cary Main Street Fest which took place on September 27 - 28 in downtown Cary. Seeing the business support, community support and attendance turnout for this amazing event was humbling to say the least. Over 5,500 people came out to food, music and family fun in this first year. The feedback from participants, volunteers and the attendees has been fantastic. I am very excited to begin planning for 2015.

My first year saw some other incredible business events as well. A variety of Noon

Shake Up lunchtime mixers, after-hour’s mixers and the new Breakfast Shake Up kept the Cary Grove Chamber members building and growing their businesses. Participation at this year’s golf outing in August was fantastic and it also helped to raise money for the Cary-Grove Food Pantry.

Over the last year I have also had the privilege of getting to know local business owners, community leaders and a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers. And since January of this year, the Chamber has added a total of 48 new members.

I want to say thank you to the people and the businesses in the Cary Grove area that have made my first year feel like such a success. Thank you also to the Chamber’s board of directors for your support and guidance. I look forward to working with you all to make 2015 an even better year.

Annual Golf Outing A Big HitOn Friday, August 22 over 70 people

gathered at Chalet Hills Golf Course in Cary for the 13 Annual Cary Grove Chamber Golf Outing. The theme was “Chamber in Paradise” and golfers were dressed in their best tropical attire and treated to Jimmy Buffet tunes throughout the day. The outing winner was a foursome hosted by American Family Insurance - The Jim Dawe Agency and included Jim Dawe, Jon Kotloski, Kent Ipsen and Mike Gedville.

The Chamber would like to thank the golf outing sponsors Sage Products, True Value Manufacturing, Northwest Herald, Jameson’s Charhouse, Malooley Sport and Family Chiropractic, Marquardt of Barrington, Martin Chevrolet, Accelerated Rehabilitation Center, Black Diamond Plumbing & Mechanical, Buffalo Wild Wings, Baxter & Woodman, Cary Bank & Trust, Cary Travel Express, Cary-Grove Foot & Ankle Center,

EmbroidMe Crystal Lake and Leader ACE Hardware & Rental Place

Finally, none of this would have been possible without the wonderful help of the golf outing committee and volunteers including co-chairs Dave and Deb Evans of Evans Carpet Cleaning Plus, Phil Horn of State Farm Insurance-The Phil Horn Agency, Holly Kelps of Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell, John McHugh of Leader ACE Hardware & Rental Place, John Opatrny of Stone Hill Shopping Center, Nick Malooley of Malooley Sport and Family Chiropractic and Patrick McEneaney of Cary-Grove Foot & Ankle Center, John Cosmos of CynJon Technologies, Lisa Raupp of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Ellen McAlpine of Envoy Mortgage, Rachel Warren of MetLife, and Dierdre Martinez of Nature’s Balance Acupuncture.

Cary Farmers Market Wraps Up Fourth SeasonThe fourth season for the Cary Farmers

Market concluded on October 12. The market, held in the Cary Metra commuter station parking lot, was host to over 20 vendors each week and as many as 30 on promotional First Sundays. During peak weeks the market would see over 1,000 guests arriving to purchase seasonal produce and other goods. The chamber is thankful to all the vendors, sponsors, volunteers who helped make another great season of the Cary Farmers Market possible.

Be sure to visit the Winter Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Sunday’s beginning October 19. The winter market is produced by the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove.

After a fantastic summer of huge crowds and

community fun with Cary Cruise Nights, Cary Farmers Market, the 13th Annual Golf Outing, and the inaugural Cary Main Street Fest, fall has finally arrived. Schools are back in session and for you and me it’s time to get back to business. Are you thinking about your new year’s resolutions? 2015 will be here before you know it and the Chamber offers some great opportunities to get of on the right foot.

On Thursday, January 8 the chamber’s annual Network Scramble luncheon will be at D’Andrea Banquets and Conference Center. If you have attended in the past, you know this event is a networking powerhouse event that jumpstarts your business year. Join a crowd of other local business

owners for a three-course lunch. Each course is at a different table with a new group of contacts to meet and learn about their business. Up to three attendees per industry are allowed so secure your seat by registering early. Advance registration ends on December 19 so send in your reservation today.

The Chamber’s Annual Dinner will take place on Friday, January 23 at the Onion Pub and Brewery. This year’s theme is a casino night and we’ll have all your favorite games including blackjack, craps, poker and roulette. A silent auction with lots of great items to take home will also help support another successful year at the chamber. Come down for dinner, drinks and a great time visiting with your friends.

Finally, the 33rd annual Community Showcase will take place at Cary-Grove High School on Saturday, March 7. Last year’s attendance was nearly 2,000 local residents who got to see a terrific showing of what the business community in the Cary Grove area has to offer. Registration for a booth starts soon so be sure to get your space and connect with your customers.

As you can see, in the early part of 2015 the Chamber has lots of great opportunities for your business to connect with customers and meet new contacts. I hope to see you there.

Chamber Community Guide Lists Everything You Need Locally

The most comprehensive resource directory covering the Cary and Fox River Grove areas will soon be delivered to thousands of local households. The 2015 issue of the Cary Grove Area Community Guide will hit the streets in late January with a thorough listing of everything you need. Watch for your edition to arrive shortly.

The Guide is a valuable resource of information on local government, community information, and important area phone numbers. It also includes a comprehensive listing of our nearly 500 Chamber members in the Business Directory. Members get one free listing as part of their membership benefits.

In addition to its resource value, the Community Guide is a yearly roundup of community events and activities. It includes numerous photos submitted by local residents that depict the quality of life here in Cary and Fox River Grove. Once the guide is produced, it will be in circulation throughout the year at key locations such as the Village Halls, real estate offices, libraries, and the Chamber’s offices at 445 Park Ave. on Route 14. The guide will also be distributed at large community events during the year such as the Community Showcase, Merry Cary, Cary Cruise Night, Cary Farmers Market, Cary Main Street Fest and more.

If you don’t receive your Community Guide by the end of the January, stop by the Chamber offices at 445 Park Ave., Cary, or call (847) 639-2800. The Cary Grove Area Community Guide is produced for the Chamber by the Northwest Herald.

Attention Chamber Members: Be sure you check your Community Guide listing. Check the Monday enewsletter for members and follow the links.

Local Entrepreneur Represents Cary in DallasChamber and Executive Board Member

Lisa Raupp joined more than 30,000 Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants at the company’s annual Seminar from July 16 to Aug. 2 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

Mary Kay Inc.’s annual Seminar brings together Independent Beauty Consultants from across the country and around the world to celebrate their business achievements and provide education, recognition and motivation for the year ahead.

Lisa began her Mary Kay business in 1985 and is currently an Independent Senior Sales Director. At Seminar, she was recognized for being the #4 Director in the National Court of Personal sales and leading her Unit to the $500,000 Unit of Excellence. She also earned her 14th Career Car a Pink CTS Cadillac.

“It felt great to be at Mary Kay Seminar celebrating my units achievements, learning more about Mary Kay and being recognized

for my efforts,” I am blessed to have amazing customers that love the products and embrace my goals,” said Raupp.

As a part of Mary Kay’s longstanding commitment to prevent and end domestic violence, Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants were encouraged to bring gently-used professional attire to donate to domestic violence shelters as part of The Mary Kay Foundation’s annual “Suits for Shelters” program. To date, the program has collected more than 12,000 pieces of professional attire for domestic violence survivors seeking jobs.

The theme for this year’s Seminar, “Discover What You LoveTM,” invites Mary Kay’s independent sales force to discover what helps them feel beautiful, confident and connected while enjoying the freedom and flexibility in their Mary Kay businesses.

For more information on Mary Kay contact Lisa at www.marykay.com/lraupp.
