Penny Boat ChallengeBy: Sheldon & Keara
We had many designs that we thought would be good but we finally came up with our final three designs
Designs
What problem are we trying to solve?
The problem we are trying to solve is how many pennies we can float in a paper boat before it sinks.
FACTS THAT WE LEARNED TO MAKE A SUCCESSFUL PENNY BOAT Distribute the pennies evenly and
spread them apart. This will keep the boat balanced.
Have higher edges so the boat wont sink as fast.
The normally best penny boat is just a box.
CHART FOR FINDING OUT WHAT ONE TO USE
Boat #1 Boat #2 Boat #3
Does it actually float?
Yes Yes Yes
Easy to make or not (1-10)
4 9 6
Is it big enough to hold very many pennies?
It’s a bit small compared to other boats
Its big and can probably hold many pennies
Its smaller and can probably hold some pennies but not as much as others
Boat #1 Boat #2 Boat #3
The boat we choseThe boat we chose was boat #2 because it
can hold more pennies than most boats and also it seems durable.
Materials we used to make our boat.
Tin foil Paper
Prediction
We predict that our boat will hold 103 pennies
We predict that Braden's & Josh’s boat will hold 100 pennies
We predict that the girl’s boat will hold 200 pennies
We predict that Spencer and the two Kyle’s boat will hold 100 pennies
We predict that Nicholas’ and Bens boat will hold 20 pennies
Results
Our boat held the most pennies at 398 The two Kyles and Spencers boat held
131 pennies The girls boat held 258 pennies Braden’s and josh’s boat held 131
pennies Nicholas and Ben's boat held 30
pennies
Conclusion We found out that the more
space you cover the more pennies your boat should be able to hold
We also found out that the fancier boat isn't always the best
