Romans 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for “Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.” 19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” 20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” 21 But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”

SAVING FAITH

• You must hear God’s revealed facts:– Creation by the One Holy Triune God– The Fall – all are born “in Adam”; in rebellion– The Law– Christ’s incarnation– Christ’s sinless life– Christ’s substitutionary death & burial– Christ’s resurrection & ascension– Christ’s current reign & imminent return– Christ’s judgment of the living & the dead

SAVING FAITH

• You must agree to – believe God’s revealed facts proclaimed to you by a person:– James 2:19 You believe that God is one; you do

well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!– False teaching: intellectual assent is saving faith– False teaching: Jesus can be Savior & not Lord

SAVING FAITH

• You must repent & call on, trust in, commit to, and submit to the Lord Jesus Christ:– Luke 9:23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come

after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

“HERE AM I! SEND ME!”2 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

AN INVITATION & A COMMAND• Isaiah 65:2 I spread out my hands all the day

to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices; 3 a people who provoke me to my face continually

• God rescues sinners & rejects the righteous • Unbelief is proven by obstinate disobedience• Saving faith is proven by joyful obedience

• God’s sovereignty: Romans 9:15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

• Human responsibility: Romans 10:21 But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”

• Antinomy: an apparent incompatibility between two truths

APPLICATIONS

• Do you know, believe & treasure God’s general & special revelation?

• Have you repented & called on, trusted in, committed to, and submitted to the Lord Jesus Christ?

• How are you being used as Christ’s messenger to other people?
