Recently, several members of our organization, including myself, attended the Freightliner National Dealer meeting in Colorado Springs. Freightliner holds this meeting every two years to align with its’ dealers on the strategic initiatives we collectively should be working on to continue the success of our mutual businesses.

This year was particularly exciting due to two new product launches. Daimler Truck North America previously announced that in the 4th quarter of this year the Detroit Diesel DD5 product will go into production. When US Xpress needed a place to secretly transform six of their 2017 Cascadias into US Military themed machines, they called on none other than Premier Truck Group of Chattanooga. When these trucks rolled in, we were reminded of the absolute necessity of keeping them out of view throughout the process until their unveiling at a special event announcing US Xpress’ commitment to hire veterans. Secrecy was paramount and non-negotiable! We quickly sectioned off part of the shop with six black 12’x20’ tarps and aircraft cable. This part of the shop quickly became referred to by employees as “Area 51” and was home to several vendors for over a week as the transformation was completed. There were battery boxes, auxiliary A/C systems and solar panels to be installed as well as the incredible full truck wraps, honoring each branch of the military and a special tribute truck dubbed the “Independence Truck”. CENTRAL by Mark LamontExecutive Vice President, Central Region

As we approach the holidays, I am reminded ofhow much wehave to be thankful for. I am thankful for the remarkable Premier Truck Group team members I work with every day. As I travel around the region I am impressed with the caring spirit that exists in our organization. Our employees truly care for each other, our customers, and the local community. It is exciting to see our employees come together to support local charities and fellow employees in need. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

I am also grateful for the efforts that went into improving our business operations this year. One of the Premier Principles we focused on was Operational Efficiency - “Premier Truck Group is committed to having the best operational efficiency in order to maximize customer uptime, service quality, support and satisfaction.” Throughout the year we have implemented several changes that are impacting our operational efficiency in a positive manner.

Many people have been involved in determining how we can maximize the

CENTRAL

utilization of our resources. We have changed the way we schedule work to increase throughput. In some locations we have started segmenting the shop to facilitate quicker repairs. We are also looking at other ways to more effectively deliver parts to the technicians in the shop. I am grateful for the time our team invested to come up with these ideas. It is exciting to see the way changes are being embraced.

In addition, we are making significant capital investments to assist our team perform its job in a safer and more efficient manner. We have installed a crane in the engine shop in South Dallas. In OKC, we have moved the engine work to a dedicated area and will be installing a crane there as well. In North Dallas, we are in the process of completely redoing the floors in the parts warehouse and in the rear of the shop. This project was long overdue. Additionally, we are installing all new shelving and LED lighting in the parts warehouse. This will provide a much safer and a more functional working environment. I am excited to work for an organization that believes in investing in the future.

I want to thank all the people who work tirelessly every day to make Premier Truck Group a better place. Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated. I wish everyone a blessed holiday season.

NORTHERN By Tom SephtonExecutive Vice President,Northern Region

It has been six months since the four North Region stores joinedthe Premier network

NORTHERN

of dealerships. During that time, we have received an incredible amount of support as we transitioned from a privately held dealership to publicly traded. Many have visited the Greater Toronto area to assist us with the change in operating system to CDK and have been available to take calls when we have struggled. We are extremely grateful for all of the support and hope we can reciprocate one day. Thank you to all.

The truck market in Central Ontario has been strong through Q3, however there are signs of softening as we head into fall and winter. Freight heading south to the United States is strong but our customers are reporting a sharp decrease in freight returning north to Canada; many are coming home “empty” for the first time in years. Our focus will continue to be on improving our parts and service absorption levels, at all locations, and right sizing our truck inventory to better align with the market.

The new Cascadia introduced at the Dealer Meeting in September will be a winner with our on highway customers and the DD5 engine will allow us to capture additional market share in the medium duty and school bus markets. Our market area offers large opportunities to increase market share in the Vocational segments of the business and we will begin to focus our sales efforts here.

We would like to acknowledge the efforts of Adrian Hammill and congratulate him on being named a winner of the prestigious Leyland James Award that recognizes the top performing Sales Representatives in the Freightliner network. We are fortunate and very proud that Adrian is part of our team. Also Dwayne Frewin, Gurminder

Ahluwalia and Jim Palmer achieved Top 75 status, recognized for sales volumes that put them in the top 75 Sales Representatives in the network.

David Eisel – Milton and Mike Pollock – Mississauga will represent the North at the Top Tech Challenge in November, congratulations and good luck to all the finalists.

Again, congratulations to all of the top performers and thank you to all for your support. Enjoy the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.

COMMUNITY EVENTSCOMMUNITY EVENTS

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Charity RodeoThe St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Charity Rodeo is held annually on Doug Yates Farm in the Miller Arena. Doug Yates has been organizing and hosting the rodeo at his farm for the past 19 years. Premier Truck Group of Chattanooga employees have contributed to this great charity for over 10 years. Many Chattanooga employees have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours throughout the course of the rodeo. Dave Basil, Billy Bost and Kim Bowman were supporters in the event this year.

Amarillo/Affiliated Foods Truck RodeoPremier Truck Group of Amarillo recently partnered up with Affiliated Foods for their annual Truck Rodeo. We donated the 5700 Western Star to be driven for their test. This truck was a huge hit with their drivers! Affiliated Foods had 19 drivers that volunteered to be a participant in this challenge which included completing a written exam, DOT pre-trip inspection and a driving test! There were two divisions for the rodeo that the drivers could participate in – the 53 foot and 28 foot divisions. The winners from each division advance to the National Rodeo in Florida.

Dallas Toys for TotsOn Sunday September 18th, Premier Truck Group of Dallas (North) hosted a Toys for Tots collection and motor cycle ride. We could not have asked for a better, more smoothly run event.

Here are a few of the numbers: • 105 people signed the registration forms• 81 motorcycle riders (including 6 Irving Police Department escort riders)• 18 volunteers • 69 new unwrapped toys were checked for donations

Additionally, $1,000 was donated and matched by Premier Truck Group, enabling us to send $2,000 to Toys for Tots. As you are receiving this, we should be rolling out our 2017 benefits at our open enrollment meetings to the United States regions while our Northern Region will be taking place in 2017.

As you may recall, last year was the first time we had consolidated all of PTG into one benefits plan. This was no easy task and certainly one that didn’t go without a few challenges. To ensure a consistent message is delivered this year, our Corporate Human Resource and Administration Manager, Tonya Adams will be at all locations leading these meetings in partnership with our local HR Representatives.

Controlling health care costs is a huge challenge that our country and most companies continue to struggle with. We encourage all of our employees to take personal responsibility for their health care with proactive measures such as their annual physicals and participating in our WellWorks program.

I recognize that the high deductible health plans (HDHP) were new to many of you this past year, but it is clearly a plan that many companies and their employees continue to adopt. Each year you should become more comfortable with this style of plan and how a Health Savings Account (HSA) works in conjunction with it. We will continue to provide a HSA match for those that contribute. I am pleased to report that in 2016 80% of our employees contributed to the HSA. Most of you also participated in our onsite biometric screening which resulted in reducing your monthly premium costs.

As you confirm participation in our 2017 health care plan, I would encourage you to also plan for your long-term financial security by signing up to participate in our 401(K) retirement plan. Over 75% of employees currently participate in this and receive a .50 cent match on each dollar they contribute up to 6% of their contribution. This is a great financial plan for your retirement.

As we close out, sitting here in Dallas with the sun shining and 95 degrees forecasted, I want to wish you and your families a great holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and best for the New Year!

As always, I welcome any comments or questions at [email protected]

HUMAN RESOURCESHUMAN RESOURCES

Putting the“Human” in Human Resources.by Scott Moss, EVP, Human Resources and Administration

Have you checked the object before you try to lift it?• Test every load before you lift by pushing the object

lightly with your hands or feet to see how easily it moves. This tells you about how heavy it is.

• Remember, a small size does not always mean a light load.

Is the load you plan to lift packed properly?• Make sure the weight is balanced and packed

so it won’t move around.• Loose pieces inside a box can cause accidents

if the box becomes unbalanced.• Be sure you have a tight grip on the object before

you lift it.• Handles applied to the object may help you

lift it safely.

Is it easy to reach this load?• To avoid hurting your back, use a ladder

when you’re lifting something over your head.• Get as close as you can to the load. Slide the load towards you if you can.• Don’t arch your back – avoid reaching out for an object.

• Do the work with your legs and your arms – not your back.

What’s the best way to pick up an object?• Use slow, smooth movements. Hurried, jerky movements can strain the muscles

in your back.• Keep your body facing the object while you lift it. Twisting while lifting

can hurt your back.• Keep the load close to your body. Having to reach out to lift and carry

an object may hurt your back.• “Lifting with your legs” should be done only when you can straddle the load.

To lift with your legs, bend your knees, not your back, to pick up the load. Keep your back straight.

• Try to carry the load in the space between your shoulder and your waist. This puts less strain on your back muscles.

How can I avoid back injuries?• Warm up. Stretch your legs and your back before lifting anything.• Pace yourself. Take many small breaks between lifts if you are lifting

a number of things.• Don’t overdo it – don’t try to lift something too heavy for you. If you have to

strain to carry the load, it’s too heavy.• Make sure you have enough room to lift safely. Clear a space around the object

before lifting it. • Look around before you lift, and look around as you carry. Make sure you can

see where you are walking. Know where you are going to put down the load.• Avoid walking on slippery, uneven surfaces while carrying something.• Don’t rely on a back belt to protect you. It hasn’t been proven that back

belts can protect you from back injury.• Get help before you try to lift a heavy load. Use a dolly or a forklift if you can.

We’ve gotPREMIER PRIDE

I recently got transferred to Penske Oshawa and found the Parts Room a complete mess, through the process of cleaning up and returning parts that was not needed (cores), Nathan has been very helpful in the process. I just wanted to say thank you for his dedication and help; without him it would have taken me at least a month to accomplish, but I was able to finish it in 2-weeks. Again a big thank you to Nathan Anderson.
