New literacies are characterized by new forms of teaching new material to students

They can be used in classroom settings

NEW LITERACY DEFINITION:

Digital storytelling: Refers to a short digital media production that grants

people the ability to contribute their life story to aid and learning

Blogging: Is the process of posting subject matter on a blog

(shortened version of “web log”; a web site that incorporates an online personal memoir)

Video recordings: A digital recording of a lecture that captures audio and

Defined by fans of authentic works of literature writing stories about popular characters

Students are able to create stories based on illustrations by contributing artists

Itunes provides students access to podcasts and reading materials needed for class

Panopto is a program that allows students to connect to video recordings and webcasting recorded by the instructor It allows instructors to record, live stream, and edit videos

to post for their students

D2L and blackboard administrates a connection between the student and teacher to transmit course content

EXAMPLES OF WHERE TO FIND NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Most of the websites used for learning purposes are free to use, however, students who do not own a computer will have to find a means to access the sites.

Instead of using books in some schools, teachers may have access to reserve electronic equipment to use in their lesson plan

New apps are being created for students that allow them to interact with teachers outside of class

Some programs may require a subscription fee to be used in class
