She must then battle the rival and face the consequences of her sin and almost loses everything because of it.

Hester got with another person while married, even if her husband was assumed dead, and sinned. She then produced an offspring. She raised the child and wore a red letter A to face her sin and to show others her sin. In cheating people end up in the same situations and have to face the consequences however the severity of them. Whether it be losing their partner or worse.

than her husband, whom was assumed lost at sea. Its a lot like when my ex-aunt got caught cheating on my uncle. She had a kid and he was suspicious so they got it tested and it ended up not being his. So they got divorced and now she has to face herself for it.
