The Walker-Turner 12" Band Saw is a completely new machine. revolutionary in design and construction . Now, for the first time in band saw manufacturing, all the basic parts of the machine are functional. The unit construction used in the building of the Walker-Turner 12H Band Saw provides a machine that is by far stiffer and more solid than that found in any machine using the customary one piece frame. In the Walker-Turner Unit Design, the main column or back-bone of t he machine supports the two cast iron wheel housings that in turn carry the wheel bearings and the other elements of the saw such as the blade gu ides, table brackets and so forth. The wheel housings are fitted with strong, light weight covers that completely cover the saw blade and wheels.

The upper wheel is aligned by means of a simple but positive screw device that requires little or no attention once it is a ligned.

Upper and lower blade guides are improved to give maxitnum support to both wide and narrow saw , blades. An easily adj usted roller provides back support on the upper guide.

SPECIFICATIONS CAPACITY: Blade to frame 12", upper ~uide to table 7", Blade width ys" to %:". BLADE SPEED: 1500 feet per minute, using a 1740 rpm motor. GUIDES: Split leaf type for side thrust, with hardened steel roller in upper guide. FRAME: Cast iron unit type construction. Simplified three unit design to provide maximum stiffness. BENCH AND FLOOR MODELS 'Valker-Turner Drill Presses are designed to perroI'm many operations in addition to drilling . With t he propel' attach­ments these machines may be adapted for sanding, grind-ing, mortising, shaping and many other wood and metal working operations. Its wide speed range make it parti­cularly adaptable ror many types of work usually done on machines or th is type. Four step spindle and motor pulleys develop speeds of 600, 1250, 2440 and 5000 R.P.M. when driven by a 1740 R.P.M. motor. Through t he use of t he Sio-Speed Attachment fifteen speeds ranging rrom 165 to 6750 R.P.M. may be obtained.

Their portability and compactness permits locating in assembly lines or along side of other machines for second operations. OUTSTANDING FEATURES

The W alket'-Turner CB970 Bench Saw is designed and built to the highest engineering standards. It will meet the most exacting requirements of the carpenter, cabinet-maker, and craftsman. For an outstanding value in a machine of this type, the Walker­Turner CB970 is hard to beat. The smooth operating depth of cut and angle of tilt and the quickly adjusted ripping fence will appeal to every user of this machine.

Designed to meet the need of the average builder or contractor, special attention has been given to making a machine that will maintain its accuracy and stand up under a more than normal amount of abuse. All unnecessary weight has been eliminated, making this saw easy to move about from job to job.

The base of the machine is made from heavy gauge steel welded for greater strength. The table is close grain gray iron, milled to a plane surface. The rip fence is a solid steel bar drilled to permit attaching a wood face if desired. The soft metal guard and the kick-back pawls are mounted on a steel splitter; this entire unit is readily removed.

The motor is mounted on an extension of the arm which carries the saw arbor, making the motor and saw an integral unit. The handwheellocated in front of the machine raises and lowers the saw blade, while the wheel on the side of t he machine controls the angle of table tilt. This wheel is provided with a positive lock to hold the saw at any desired angle. The table may be tilted up to 45° in one direction.

The saw arbor is carried on sealed ball bearings mounted in a dust tight housing. The elevating mechanism is completely enclosed and is dust proof.

The soft metal table insert is easily removed, a similar insert for use with a dado head is available. This insert is illustrated elsewhere on this page.

Through using the (f24 Steel Stand it is pos ible Lo do stroke surfacing on large panels up to 12 " in width and 4 to 5 feet in length. The shelf is adjustable up and down for a distance of 14" permitt ing wood up to that thickness to be sanded.

The one piece cast iron frame is accurately machined to accommodate the drive shaft bearings and it has a buil t in guard covering the V belt drive. Four dust sealed ball bearings that requ ire no lubrication carry the two abrasive belt pulleys. The idler pulley is spring loaded and is adjustable for alignment.

These two models are designed for light and medium duty applications in industrial plants and work-shops.

Casings used on these machines and the SF396X Shaft Assembly are made of preformed steel wire shaped to prevent grease leakage. The inner layer of wire is oil tempered carbon steel which provides an almost wear proof bearing surface for the core. Cores are %," in diameter and are wound from high carbon steel wire. The handpiece is ball bearing of the cup and cone type intended for continuous service.

The Flexible Shaft Machines shown on this page are de­signed for commercial, light industrial and work-shop use.

Models No. 253 and 258 are identical with the exception of the drive, the latter being a belt driven, multi-speed model \vhile the No. 253 is a single speed, direct drive model. Both models are adapted for repair, service and maintenance shops for a ll types of grinding, sanding, buffing, drilling and similar operations.

A heavy cast iron housing carries the jack-shaft bearing assembly and encloses the belt and pulleys. The motor, motor base and pulley housing swivels on a tripod base. Jack-shaft and handpiece spindles are mounted on dust sealed ball bearings.

Cores are built up of transversely wound layers of high carbon steel wire and are designed for maximum strength and flexibility.

All motors have extended end bells giving addi­tional working a rea a round the wheels. motors are totally enclosed and a re equippeu wit,h specia l sha ft seals to exclude dust, precision dust sealed bearings are s tandard on a ll models. The heavy cast iron guards a rc easily removed, cast iron tool rests are adj ustable. Walker-Tu rner Grind ers a rc available in three sizes: % hp. wit h 6" wheels; ~ hp. with 7" wheels a nd 1 hp with 10" wheels. A com­bination grinder and disc sander is a lso available.

These motors develop 225 % of full load torque for short period];;; a nd wil l run continuously at full load without exceed ing 40° C. temperature rise. Precis ion manufac­turing and heavy-duty pre-loaded ball bearings insure smooth running and long motor life. The 2 and 3 h p motors have double row bearings on the front end of the spindles.
