LIBERAL STUDIES
Liberal Studies (LBST) is the most common Bachelor's Degree major taken by students interested in becoming K-8 teachers. It provides the best preparation and background knowledge in all required K-8 subjects, as well as providing preparation for required state testing. Those not interested in teaching will benefit from gaining a broad multidisciplinary education leading to success in a wide range ofcareers.
All options have the same lower-division requirements. These requirements address the seven core subject matter areas of the K-8 curriculum. Because of the considerable curricular breadth required by the State-specified ESM content preparation standards, many of the required lower-division courses also meet
CSUSM's General Education requirements. However, because of state specifications, there are very limited substitution options in the curriculum. Courses are clustered around the seven subject matter areas specified by State Accreditation agencies.
ALL COURSES TAKEN FOR THE MAJOR MUST BE COMPLETED WITH A GRADE OF "C"(2.0) OR HIGHER. COURSES CANNOT BE TAKEN FOR CREDIT/NO CREDIT GRADING. DO NOTFOLLOW THE CSU GENERAL EDUCATION BREADTH REQUIREMENTS, THE LOWER DIVISION LIBERAL STUDIES PREP FULFILLS THE CSU LOWER DIVISION GENERAL EDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS.
The California State University, before awarding a degree, requires students to complete the American Institutions Requirement. It is strongly recommended that transfer students complete the requirement at course(s) to complete the American Institutions requirement.
CSUSM believes strongly in preparing its students for the demands of a diverse and globalizing world. So, every student — regardless of major and in order to graduate — must demonstrate proficiency ina language other than English.Meeting the LOTER confirms that you have an intermediate level of linguistic proficiency in a language.

NURSING
SUBJECT PREPARATION REQUIREMENTS ARE GOVERNED BY LEGISLATIVE ACTION. REQUIREMENTS MAYCHANGE BETWEEN CATALOGS; PLEASE BE SURE TO VIEW THE MOST RECENT ARTICULATION AGREEMENT.
THE AGREEMENT DOES NOT REFLECT COURSE-COURSE ARTICULATIONS; THERFORE, THESE SAME EQUIVALENCIESCANNOT BE ASSUMED FOR OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND/OR MAJORS AT CSU SAN MARCOS.
THE B.S. IN NURSING HAS FOUR OPTIONS. EACH OF THESE OPTIONS REQUIRES COMPLETION OF THE PRE-NURSING CORE PRIOR TO ADMISSION TO A NURSING PROGRAM. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, UNIQUE TO EACHOPTION, IS AVAILABLE ON THE WEB SITE.
This agreement represents the list of all transfer options which are acceptable to California State University, San
Marcos as meeting the equivalent of the course requirements within the B.S. in Nursing (BSN Degree)
All students are required to apply separately to the school of Nursing or Extended Learning for entry into one ofthe BSN programs listed below. This agreement is subject to change each academic year and does not include pre-requisites.
TRADITIONAL BSN OPTION
This is an impacted program and is offered by the School of Nursing: www.csusm.edu/nursing. This program isintended for students who have not already completed an LVN or RN program.
LVN to BSN OPTION This program is offered by the School of Nursing.
RN to BSN OPTION Prior to entry to the program, applicants must hold a California RN license and completion of college coursework
from a regionally-accredited college/university,(WASC or other regional accreditation affiliate), including LVNcoursework if taken separately (with the exception of military training). This program is currently offered throughExtended Learning:
ACCELERATED BSN OPTION This program may be completed in 22-24 months and is only available to students who have/will have completed a
Bachelor's degree, in a discipline outside of nursing from a regionally-accredited college/university. This programis offered through Extended Learning:

CSUSM believes strongly in preparing its students for the demands of a diverse and globalizing world. So, everystudent — regardless of major and in order to graduate — must demonstrate proficiency in a language other thanEnglish.
Meeting the LOTER confirms that you have an intermediate level of linguistic proficiency in a language.
CSU History, Constitution, and American Ideals
The California State University, before awarding a degree, requires students to complete courses or examinationsthat address:
The historical development of American institutions and ideals (Area US-1),
ANDThe Constitution of the United States and the operation of representative democratic government under thatConstitution (Area US-2),
ANDThe process of California state and local government (Area US-3)
This requirement may be fulfilled at a California Community College prior to transfer by completing a combinationof the courses that satisfies all three areas of the requirement.
B.S. IN NURSING OTHER SUPPORTING COURSEWORK
With the exception of the RN to BSN program, Psyc 100 and Anth 200 are not required for admission to theGeneric/Basic or LVN to BSN Nursing programs, and may be taken early if desired. Students pursuing a SecondBachelor's Degree in Nursing are exempt from: (1) CSU GE Area C courses; (2) CSU American Institutionsrequirement; (3) CSUSM Language Other than English Requirement (LOTER); and the CSUSM GE Area BBrequirement, if an approved lower-division nutrition course is completed.
NOTE: Students have the option of completing BIOL 323 at CSUSM which meets the nutrition requirement andsatisfies the upper-division BB requirement.
