  • Basketball Positions 1. Point Guard (1) best ball handler/play maker. 2. Shooting Guard (2) Can shoot well from outside of the key. 3. Forward (2) Good shot from up close, good at rebounding. 4. Center (1) Duties same as forwards, but a little taller and generally closer to the baseline.

  • Basketball Rules Game begins with a jump ball. All players except jumpers start outside of the circle. Ball needs to stay in bounds. Offensive player cant stay in the key longer than 3 seconds. While running, a player with a basketball must continuously dribble the ball.

  • Basketball Rules cont. Inbound Play after a turnover or nonshooting foul, player from outside of court brings ball into play with a pass. Team wins is the one with the most points when game ends.

  • Basketball Skill: Dribble 1. Spread fingers out over the top of the ball. 2. Use finger tips to control ball. 3. Use wrist and arm pressure to PUSH ball down. 4. As ball comes back to the hand, give slightly before pressing down again. 5. RECEIVE ball when it comes back up. 6. Head up and eyes looking forward.

  • Basketball Skill: Chest Pass 1. Hold your ball close to your chest. 2. Spread your fingers around the ball. 3. Step forward while releasing ball. 4. Push off back foot. 5. Extend arms.

  • Basketball Shot: Layup Lay up shot: 1. Start by dribbling towards the basket. 2. As you approach the basket you may take 1 steps. 3. Leap towards the basket with your left foot. 4. Lift your right knee with your right arm. 5. Shoot and score!

  • Basketball Shot: Jump Shot 1. Square hips to the basket. 2. Bend knees. 3. Elbows in. 4. Eyes on basket. 5. Jump straight up. 6. Follow through.

  • Basketball Tactics Put the center under the basket in offense and defense. Move to Open Space Use a Fast Break to catch the opposition off guard. Use the Give and Go to open up space. Pick and Roll An offensive screen on a defender and creates openings for players to shoot. Inbound Play to put ball into play. Defense: Player to Player Zone.

  • Offensive Strategy: Move to Open Space Team mate breaks open away from defense to be available to receive a pass. Uh ohthis is getting CRAZY! Someone get open PLEASE!!

  • Basketball Tactic Fast Break A quick transition from defense to offense. Team with the ball runs quickly to the other end to score. They attempt to score before the defending team has a chance to set up.

  • Basketball Tactics Give and Go The give and go is an offensive tactic. Player 1 passes to the ball to Player 2. Player 1 runs towards the basket. Player 2 passes Player 1 the ball. Player 1 shoots at the basket.

  • Basketball Tactics Pick and Roll 1. Find your team mates defender. 2. Set a pick by standing stationary on either side of the defender. 3. As soon as my team mate dribbles past me, then I roll towards the basket asking for the ball.
