In October 1953 the USAF ‘borrowed’ a Yak-23 from an Eastern European country (probably Yugoslavia where a defected Romanian aircraft landed on 24 June 1953) and flew it at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The aircraft carried serial 0599 and buzz code FU-599, probably a random number without any meaning. The first flight in the US was made on 4 November 1953 and the last of eight flights on 25 November 1953. After that the aircraft was returned to its owner. The aircraft was transported from and to the Eastern European country inside a C-124 transport aircraft.

Zodiac Vedette Specifications: diameter: length: 263', 80.16 m engines: 2 Liberty max. speed: 60 mph, 97 km/h During World War I the US Navy operated French built Vedette airships VZ.3, VZ.7 and VZ.13. After the war VZ.7 and VZ.13 were transferred to the US Navy with serials A-5592 and A-5593 respectively. Once in the United States most foreign airships were found to be in poor condition and were stored until scrapped. It is likely they were never flown.
