Explain why many religious believers might say that we should show concern for those in need (4)

• A basic duty on those who believe in God• Some religious teachers/leaders have taught this

practice e.g Jesus – Good Samaritan• To fail to show concern is to fail in duty and to God• God created us equally, we should treat others

equally• Humans made in God’s image, everyone is of

infinite worth• People gain spiritual benefit from helping others

Zakah• One of the five pillars of Islam• Compulsory payment of money or possessions

to help poor and needy• Each year, a Muslim gives 2.5% (approx.) of

savings to help others• Each mosque will have a collecting box and

committee to decide how the money should be spent

• Through this system the whole ‘ummah’ (Islam community) is made more equal

Muslim beliefs• Muslims believe Allah is the Creator of all

human kind• Therefore they must take responsibility and

care for others• The community of believers (ummah) are

expected to care for each other• All wealth is a gift from Allah and so it is

important it is used wisely• Muslims are encouraged to show care and

concern for others
