Greetings and Welcome to our last doll in the BLACK/WHITE series.

Jessa was created for our Beginners. Very basic patterns, and tutorial ... but such pretty possi-bilities with the flowing cape and pretty batiste dress!

This doll builds on the hair style from Mortisia (gluing on curls) ... with one additional length added on her neck.

The cape was created from black/white check silk material and blue taffeta silk material. Lined by cotton lace - pretty and very easy.

I will be home the month of August for any questions - the class for Jessa is being held last Monday in September.

As always Happy Creating!DANA

PREPERATION1. This doll is PETITE! 5 1/2” ... one of the smallest ones I’ve made.

2. Paint shoes, Assemble doll, put on stand. **NOTE** I painted my shoes a tan color to not interfere with the clothing color.

3. Take small rectangle of batiste, and cover doll assembly (i.e. pipecleaner/padding) - making a small slip.

DRESS1. Cut 10” x 4” piece of batiste. Turn very bot-tom edge under to wrong side for hem.

2. Gather and pin folds in place on macrame board. I ironed to make flat pleats.

3. Cut 2” x 5” piece of batiste. Fold in half and glue on skirt for waistband/bodice. Join back edges and glue forming tube.

4. Glue skirt/bodice combo on doll ....REMEMBER the cloak covers the entire back of doll. Glue on two small scallops of lace (over shoulders) to finish dress design.

SLEEVES1. Glue pipecleaner into arm. Check length and cut off any excess.

2. Cut out 2” x 1”. Turn one side edge under to wrong side and glue. Wrap around doll’s lower arm and glue.

3. Piece cut small scallop from lace and glue on for pretty cuff.

I also piece cut two scallops - glued top on

bodice.

Glued bottom piece on waistband. See photo

later on in tutorial.

4. Cut 2 1/2 x 2 1/2” square of batiste. Gather edges and pull tight.

5. Poke hole in middle, and insert arm. This makes the upper sleeve puff.

6. Insert arm into torso (glue).

CAPE1. Cut out cape pattern from blue silk and black/checkered silk.

2. Glue together.

3. Glue lace around outside edges and turn inside. This effectively seals the edges and pro-vides a pretty trim.

4. Glue cape top to her shoulders. I made two tiny pleats (overlapped excess material at shoul-ders) to make cape fit nicely.

Pin cape into place (for draping) and lightly mist with hairspray.

Decorate the dress with a *V* shape corset style belt and small pieces of lace and/or bead-ing.

BE CAREFUL not to play with cape too much! I changed it so many times - that I ended up with an entirely different design then I wanted. (Final Photo)

WIGGING1. These are the same directions as Mortisia. Simply tightly curl hair on knitting needle, Clamp with flat iron .... spread out curl and glue on to head with Aileens Tacky Glue.

The only difference is the long strand I glued at her neck to soften.

FLOWERS ... I glued a redrose in her hair for color, and two white ones at hersleeve for texture.

Flowers are from Mari Smith(email address on tutorial page).
