VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – Practical Benefits
VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – Is it too good to be True?
(Please see www.vorblade.com “Tech Page” for detailed information)
FACT 1: More than half of fuel is used to overcome air drag
FACT 2: Highest drag (53%) is behind the tractor & trailer
FACT 3: Cross winds could double the drag adding up to 40% of fuel consumption and 20% to driver fatigue
FACT 4: 50 % of truck accidents are attributed to weather and driver fatigue. A 25% reduction of aerodynamic influences equals over 500 lives saved and 11000 injuries avoided annually
Are the VorBlade results even possible to achieve? The facts from studies by the US Departments of Energy (DOE) and
Transportation (DOT):
Simulation of air drag during cross wind
VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – What is VorBlade?
As proven by the US Department of Energy and US Department of Transportation studies, fuel consumption and safety can be improved by reducing air drag and suppressing harmful turbulence behind the vehicle
Utility Patents pending
The VorBlade system is invented to do the job: It is a Scientifically designed combination of unique small scale vortex generators (SSVG) that create an invisible self-adaptive shield around a vehicle destroying harmful turbulence and significantly reducing air drag
VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – Science or Hoax?
3. How do you know it is the best shape and configuration?
4. What is air drag by the way?
5. How do your VorBlades work?
6. Is it EPA SmartWay Verified? Do I need any other devices besides VorBlade Wing System to satisfy new CARB regulations?

We realize that a lot of people are a little skeptical about any new technologies. The usual questions:
Let’s try to answer these questions one by one!
1. Why do you think those little “turbines” can actually help instead of creating extra drag?
2. What is so “unique” about the VorBlade design?
VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – Nothing new is really new!
The rows of SSVG on the US NAVY T-45 Goshawk (right) and British Royal Air

1. Why do you think those little “turbines” can actually help instead of creating extra drag?
Everybody has seen SSVGs on aircraft. If they were harmful or created negative effects, would
they be placed there? Certainly NOT!
In fact VorBlade System creates only 14 lbF of extra drag but improves fuel efficiency of your semi-truck by 0.7 MPG at 65mph
The concept of small scale vortex generators (SSVG) is well known and has been successfully used over the last 80 years in aircraft technologies
Unfortunately the “open” aircraft design of Vortex Generators is not effective enough for motor vehicles. No stable vortices with long lifespan can be generated at vehicle speeds unless an enclosed channel with blades inside is used.
Aerospace-designed Small Scale Vortex Generators have been used on motor vehicles before, but VorBlade is the FIRST (and ONLY) system specifically designed for highway speeds and conditions.

VorBlade is invented to “trap” the air in its intake channel and create 10ft long stable vortices. It works perfectly when angled up to 20 degrees to the airflow.
VorBlade’s unique design addresses the highway driving speeds (60 mph vs. airplane’s 600 mph), bulky shape of a trailer and inability of a motor vehicle to adapt to cross winds (unfortunately truck can’t lean or “dog-tail” like an airplane).
2. What is so “unique” about the VorBlade design?
VorBlade Invisible Fairings TM – No magic, just hard work!
Fuel savings of 8 - 9% for Tractor-Trailer or Box Truck (3 - 5% if used on Cab Only and 5 - 6% if used on Trailer Only), and 6 - 8% for RV or Bus
VorBlade streamlines airflow behind the vehicle to a teardrop shape with the least possible air drag and easily self adapts to cross winds and changes in vehicle speeds.
3. How do you know it is the best shape and configuration?
Airflow during strong cross winds
VorBlade’s unique design is a result of two years of hard work. Our team of leading fluid mechanics scientists, engineers and technicians combined theoretical analysis, CFD studies and wind tunnel tests to refine the VorBlade shape and configuration.
Real road tests results: 8.76% in fuel savings!
VorBlade Invisible FairingsTM – How much does air drag cost?
The estimates are based of the US DOE and DOT studies
4. What is air drag by the way? It is an aerodynamic force opposing the vehicle’s motion through surrounding air. It works like a giant arm or a parachute that pulls you back!
Where does air drag come from?
Surrounding airflow cannot follow a fast moving truck and fill the space behind it
The air shortage creates a low pressure zone (LPZ) and a pressure drop on the trailer back
Pressure difference creates a force pulling you back. That force is called
AIR DRAG!
How can air drag be reduced?
Pumping more air into the LPZ (or so-called “vacuum”) will reduce the pressure drop and force pulling you back (air drag)
The smaller the zone, the smaller the pressure drop (Bernoulli’s effect) and the lower air drag
The airflow can’t make sharp turn due to inertia

VorBlade Invisible FairingsTM – How to Start a Tornado!
Large-scale Turbulent Vortices – the major cause of high drag
The abrupt transition of air pressure and speed on the LPZ boundaries (strong shear) generates large scale turbulent vortices (harmful turbulence)
The large scale turbulent tornado-like vortices create “twister blockage” preventing air from pouring smoothly into the Low Pressure Zone (LPZ)
It results in larger LPZ – “vacuum area” behind a truck which means a larger air drag force and extra fuel to fight the AIR DRAG
The estimates are based of the US DOE and DOT studies

saving you more than 0.5 MPG.
The Full VorBlade System gives you an extra 0.7 MPG
Let’s see how they actually work
VorBlade Invisible FairingsTM – Not a rocket science anymore!
5. How do your VorBlades work? VorBlade vortex generators
produce stable small-scale vortices and direct them towards the shear area
Small scale vortices intensively mix the air erasing the abrupt jump in air speed and pressure
No jump means no tornado-like harmful turbulent vortices
No “twister blockage” means that surrounding air smoothly pours into the LPZ and shrinks it
Compensated pressure means lower air drag and higher MPGs
Let physics work for you and save over 8% of your fuel.

Smooth boundary - no abrupt jump
VorBlade is the ONLY self-adapting system on the market! Destroying the “twister blockage”, it helps the airflow to streamline itself to a teardrop shape creating a “bubble” with minimum resistance. This “bubble” follows the wind adapting itself to changing conditions. Nature is perfect, VorBlade just helps it to perform!
VorBlade WingTM - Unique Design
Conventional Trailer End Fairings
Streamline airflow near bluff edges and reduce the size of Low Pressure Zone (LPZ) by delaying a flow separation (direct air into the path that would go around edges of a smaller trailer)
It results in slightly compensated pressure in the LPZ and lower air drag
Avantechs Innovative Trailer End Fairing
Two-part fairing traps the incoming air and provides an intensive channel flow
Scientifically designed profile ensures intersection of the channel and external airflows at the optimum angle to generate strong small-scale vortices
“Bumps” on spoiler surfaces are made to strengthen small scale vortices further
Innovative VorBlade Fairing produces a layer of rigorous small-scale vortices (a protective vortex sheet) and directs that layer towards the shear area
Reduced LPZ
Small-scale vortices are generated by intersecting flows
Channel flow
External airflow
Delayed flow separation slightly reduces the LPZ
Flow separation without any fairings
VorBlade WingTM Trailer System saves you 7.3 – 9.5 % of fuel

VorBlade WingTM external surface works as a regular Faring - streamlines airflow and reduces the size of the low pressure zone and air drag
VorBlade Fairing Vortex Sheet enhanced by VorBlade vortex generators intensively mixes the air, erases the abrupt pressure and speed jump (weakens shear), and secures smooth airflow and pressure compensation
VorBlade WingTM System’s “side blades” effectively reduce crosswind effects by 50%
VorBlade WingTM System is an Advanced Trailer End Fairing Verified by EPA SmartWay for 5%+ Category
Exceeds the new CARB trailer aerodynamic regulations minimum threshold. No other additional aerodynamic device is needed
