CKP E-Learning Prospectus

Foreword from John MaherDirector of Academy Recruit Training

Although this course would be probably labelled as ‘distance learning’, modern technology has allowed us to substantially reduce that distance. You should feel confident that you are not alone in your studies and that ‘we are with you all the way’. I am so confident in our product and service that I offer a money back guarantee which is outlined later in this prospectus.

As a College of Policing ‘approved provider’, I am passionate that our course is as good as it possibly can be. I know through my years of Police training experience that there are three very important underpinning factors which will lead to your success.

The three underpinning factors are, Quality Support, Quality Materials and Quality Trainers. I am confident and proud to state that we achieve ‘quality’ in all three of these areas and you can see my rationale for these throughout this prospectus.

If you are considering completing the CKP and would like advice about the best possible route please feel free to call me without any obligation.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our course, and I wish you all the very best in your studies and future career.

CKP Introduction

Welcome to our E-Learning course for the ‘Certificate in Knowledge of Policing’ (CKP).If you are looking for a career as a Police Officer the CKP is an excellent introduction giving you the required knowledge of law and police procedures.

The CKP gives candidates an official level 3 qualification and allows future police officers to take personal responsibility for their learning. It is important however that you are well directed and supported right from the outset throughout your learning experience.

Achievement of the Certificate in Knowledge in Policing (CKP) will help prepare those seeking recruitment to the Police Service as a Police Constable in England or Wales.  The qualification is also relevant to other related roles within the Criminal Justice Sector.

The certificate is an important element of the Professional Entry into Policing Pre-Join Strategy, and accredits the knowledge and understanding which also forms part of the Diploma in Policing qualification. The Diploma in Policing is the minimum mandatory qualification which Regular Police Constables are required to achieve to be confirmed in rank and forms part of the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP).

All those who achieve the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing through a provider approved by the College of Policing will be able to submit this as evidence of the knowledge component of the Diploma. All awarding organisations offering the Diploma in Policing recognise and accept the relationship between the CKP and Diploma in Policing.

Successful achievement of the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing does not in itself provide any guarantee of recruitment as a trainee Police Constable. Each police service within England and Wales sets out its own recruitment process and selection policy and entry requirements vary from service to service. Prospective students are therefore strongly advised to check the specific requirements of their chosen Police Service prior to undertaking study.

It should be noted that all candidates need to pass medical and fitness tests as well as background and security checks and undertake a series of assessments, tests and an interview at a Police SEARCH® assessment centre.

Academy Recruit Training does deliver Recruit Assessment Training

Some Police Services including the Metropolitan Police have made it a requirement that anyone applying must first qualify with the CKP from a College of Policing Approved Provider. We are an Approved Provider. Other forces could make this a condition of application in the future.

Resources and SupportIt is our aim to reduce the ‘distance’ between you, the learner and us, the trainers. A great deal of effort has gone into the course development to ensure that you are supported and that you have a quality learning experience. As previously mentioned there are three underpinning themes to ensure we deliver our promise.

Quality SupportAs a learner taking the E-learning course you will be unique and have specific needs in relation to time and opportunity to study. You will also have a preferred method of learning, a personal ‘learning style’.

At the start of your course, you will be contacted by your ‘personal tutor’ so that you can discuss a ‘personal support plan’. The tutor will respond to your specific needs and preferences to achieve the best possible route for your success. Whilst the materials available are comprehensive, sometimes a tutor may be able to clarify issues very quickly for you. You should never feel alone. It is expected that video calling technology can be used for this purpose, (eg SKYPE)

The learning platform you will be using will include the facility to submit questions online direct to your tutor.

Quality MaterialsWe have a wide range of our own materials which we have blended with materials from the College of Policing and National Centre for Applied Learning Technologies (NCALT). Our materials are designed so that you will be able to control and access very easily the specific subject you require at any given time. We believe that the flexibility and control our materials offer is far superior to watching videos.

The whole course is managed from a very simple learning platform, to which you will have a personal login account. The system will record and direct your transition through the course, with the exception of the NCALT E-learning, (where you will be directed to your NCALT login). Access to all the materials you require will be one click away within the learning platform.

Our blend of resources includes:-

Academy Recruit Training Materials:- Short videos / slideshow notesnarrated slideshows / modular quizzes / assessments.
