The Natural History Museum has put together a comprehensive list of over 20,000 deep sea species for you to explore. Children love learning the names of unusual creatures and seeing them in all their spectacular glory – this should appeal to their curiosity (and many adults’ too). This week, our budding scientists went to Farringdon train station to see the development of Crossrail (new high frequency, high capacity railway for London and the South East.) The pupils from Year 5 learnt all about the project, performed their own poems to the engineers in charge, used walkie talkies to speak to the crane drivers to control the cranes and unveiled the new name of their big crane. Congratulations to Eva who won the competition to name it Captain Crane! Many thanks to the Crossrail team and everyone who helped organise this amazing opportunity, especially Miss Hunt, our Science Co-ordinator. First we went to a meeting to meet Louise and Francis from WSCC. Then we went to a special assembly where we were given our folders, our safety jackets and our badges. Louise told us about keeping safe around cars. The Lollipop Lady (she is actually called a Road Crossing Patrol person) reminded us about being careful when we cross the road and not to be distracted. We will be writing to parents who do not help us stay safe outside on the road. By Oliver and Matthew MAY FAIR Next Friday 3.20 - 5 pm All proceeds to charities chosen by the children. The children will be learning about the benefits of walking to school - increased safety around school, discovering new things on the way, creating healthy habits, eco-friendliness and fun! The children will also be earning house points when they walk, scooter, cycle or park and stride to school. We will announce the house that have been the most active when coming to school in next week's newsletter! Shiver me Timbers!
