It’s%Spring%already?!?% %While%everyone%back%home%has%been%braving%the%

cold,%we’ve%been%basking%(read%melting)%in%the%sun.% %The%clinic%is%busy%

seeing%on%average%400%patients%per%month.% %There%are%the%usual%things:%

Malaria,% Typhoid,% UTIs,%and%then%there% are%the% things% that% really% get%

your%blood%pumping.% %Like%the%8%year%old%with%Whooping%Cough%unable%

to% breath.% % Stitching%up%a%man%who’s%head%was%split%open%by%a% falling%

coconut.%%Or%the%man%being%held%down%by%6%friends%in%the%waiting%room%

saying%witches%are%out%to%get%him.% %Totally%believable,%but%then%you%Mind%

out% its% really% Cerebral%Malaria% causing% psychosis.% % Or% the% “big%belly”%

who% is% only% 7% months% along% but% going% into% preQterm% labor% during%

morning% devotions% and% all% you%can%offer% her% is% a% Mluid% bolus% and% a%

prayer%(which%worked)!!%

In%the%midst%of%it%all%we’ve%had%some%visitors.% %Friends%came%to%visit%us%

from% the%states,%our%Solar%Guys%Mixed%our%vaccine%fridge…%the%vaccines%

arrive% TOMORROW,% and% a% team% who% will% be% installing% a% rain%

harvesting% system% for% the% clinic% came% along% with%Endor,% the%biggest%

dog%in%Liberia%(got%a%little%hairy%when%a%monkey%jumped%on%his%back%to%

say% hello).% % We% also% had% some% unQwelcomed% guests.% % Driver% Ants%

decided%to% check%out%our%clinic%and%home%one%evening.%After% a%couple%

cans%of%Raid%and%insecticide%spray,%I%don’t% think%they’ll%be%making%that%

mistake%again…%we%hope.% %Seeing%your%entire%exam%room%Mloor%moving%

like%a%scene%from%Indiana%Jones%is%not%a%fun%sight!%%

Looking% forward% to% Spring% which% will% bring% in% Rainy% Season% and%

Mangoes% (not% for% Jen,% she’s% allergic).% % Hope% everyone% is% looking%

forward%to%warmer%temps%and%less%snow!!% %Oh,%and%next%week,%Steve%is%

going%to%try%and%cut%my%hair.%%Never%a%dull%moment%in%Po!!

Jen’s first time getting Malaria. She didn’t think it was too bad on day one but on day two she was not smiling... or getting out of bed. God helped her through and she is back to 100%.

The$ Ripple$ Effect…$ A% few% weeks% ago% our%friend%Marcus%showed%up%at%the%clinic,%bruised%

and% bleeding.% % County% immigration% ofMicers%%

had% pepper% sprayed% him% and% beat% him%

repeatedly%with% a% telescoping% rod% because% they% didn’t%

think%he%was%being% forthcoming.%%We% took%a%few%pictures,%

patched%him%up,%and% let%him% take%refuge% in%the% clinic%for%

the% remainder%of%the%day,%until% the% immigration% ofMicers%

left%the%area.%%

Liberia% has% been% ranked% as% one% of% the% most% corrupt%

countries%in%the%world,%and%we%see%that%side%of%Liberia%on%

a% daily%basis%and% nothing% is% done% to% stop% it.% %However,%

with% the% help% of% village% elders,% our% photos% and% clinic%

examination%report,%Marcus%was%able% to%see%justice%done.%%

The% immigration% ofMicers% including% the% County%Director%

were% stripped% of% their% position% and% jailed! % % We% aren’t%

here% to% change% the% country% or% the% culture…%we’ll% leave%

that%to%God.%%However,%like%a%stone%cast%into%a%stream,%one%

small% thing% we% do% can% affect% change% and% our% reach% is%

going%so%much%further%than%just%Po%River.%%
