Step V: Application for pharmacy opening

A complete Application for

Certificate of Accreditation as a

Pharmacy, including the

application fee and pharmacy floor

plan, must be received by the

department of Client Services of

Ontario College of Pharmacy (OCP)

at least 45 days prior to the

Step VI: Scheduling an Inspection

Submitted application

An OCP inspector is notified to

call the pharmacist to schedule

an inspection of the pharmacy

prior to the proposal opening

day.

P.S. It may take up to 2 weeks to schedule an inspection

Step VII: The Inspection

Once an Inspector has

completed their inspection of

the pharmacy, notification will

be sent to Client Services and

Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB)

confirming the pharmacy has

been accredited.

Step VIII: pre-opening

Order inventory and stock the

shelves

Advertise for the opening day

(Market to the Doctors,

industries, pharmaceutical

companies and to public)

Create a formal operations

manual or employee handbook

Provide training and give each

employee a copy of the manual.

Step IX: Grand Opening

Open on the advertised day.

Client Services will contact the

pharmacy to confirm whether the

pharmacy is open to the public.

Once confirmed, the pharmacy

will be made Active and will

appear on the College’s Public

Register.

The Certificate of Accreditation

will then be sent by email to the

Designated Manager of the

pharmacy.
