1. Executive Summary

The idea of Pet Me was thought of at the end of September 2019 by a group of six innovative co-

founders. It aims to serve pets lovers with the easiest and most convenient way possible. The idea was

created due to the lack of pet adoption culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Pet Me team saw this

problem as a chance to enter the market with an educational goal that could be channeled through our online

platform. We, Pet Me team, are targeting people within our country “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, in which

we are full of hope that with what Vision 2030 has brought a prosperity, we could lighten also the area

where people could be aware of pet's rights and pet's adoption culture.

In line with the vision 2030, a humanitarian initiative focuses on improving society's awareness of

animal rights with the reliance on the Islamic faith that urges us showing mercy and kindness to animals.

On the basis of this approach, Pet Me will solve a problem of those pets who can't find safe and warm

shelters by filling the gap providing pet lovers with free service of adopting the pets through reliable mobile

application. The service will cover all the regions of the Kingdom for the reason of facilitating the adoption

process for every pet lover that is going to welcome this idea that is based on the convenient number of the

agreeing participants of our conducted survey.

Pet Me aims at the local market within the Kingdom, so our competitors are likewise. Riyadh Shelter

(RARS) and Hurairah KSA. What makes us different is the variety of our pets and their accessibility. Pet

Me team is dedicated to working to the highest quality possible and reaching pet lovers throughout the

Kingdom.

This whole business plan, was analyzed and went through every single detail carefully in order to be

aware of what market and industry we are going in. The surveys conducted, the feasibility analysis, the

operational, and all other elements of this plan show that we could get a chance to introduce the idea, in

addition to that, we saw that upon the survey's answers, there are number of people considering adoption

instead of buying. However, due to the lack of trusted entities and places to rely on, the number of people

who adopt are a few. In which, our turn starts to be impactful and significant for this group of people.

2. Company Description

Company History

Pet Me was thought of at the end of 2019 in September. It was created by a group of six innovative students

at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU) majored differently under the College of Business

Administration. All six, had the joint passion for social services, entrepreneurship, and pets. The business

model as a whole, was written immediately after the idea was approved by the instructor of entrepreneurship

course, yet, it went through adjustments ever since. Pet Me had a great support from the instructor of

entrepreneurship course, in which, was suggested to be proposed to Prince Turki Bin Mohammad Bin Fahd

Center for Creativity & Entrepreneurship (PTCCE). The center then, supported the idea and promised to

offer whatever needed to the participant student (co-founders of Pet Me). This business, is planned to be

launched at the end of this year, 2020, with full of hope to deepen the human-pets-bond within our society,

within Saudis. We, Pet Me team, saw a gap in the local market that was spotting the light for us to think in

a way that could help pets in Saudi and adopters. Here, at Pet Me, we are offering the adoption service

through a mobile application with the easiest way possible, with such a variety and no fees upon adoption.

There are competitors, of course, either indirect competitors (Riyadh Shelter (RARS) and Hurairah KSA)

or even future ones. The local gap in Saudi market is too obvious to the point that anyone who is passionate

about pets could easily start implementing this sort of business in Saudi, in which, leaves us thinking of the

probability of future rivals. Yet, however, at Pet Me, we are putting our all of energy in order to serve pets

lovers within the Kingdom, philanthropy, through our mobile application.

Vision Statement

"To provide a pet adoption culture full of trust, care, and endless love."

Company Industry

Pet Me operates within the technological industry, where the competition is high; due to the creativity level

that website and mobile application developers have and due to the fact that technology grows rapidly.

However, within the technology industry in the Kingdom, there is no website or mobile application that got

the same idea of Pet Me with a variety of pets and easy processes. Pet Me offers its services intending to

ease the pet adoption process with no consideration to price. Technological industries got no boundaries to

enter them in which makes the future competition even tougher and higher. Especially, in the Kingdom,

and according to (Vision 2030, 2016), there is a great support that is provided toward technology sector,

and hence, people are more attracted to be part of digital and technological industries. Pet Me team is

planning to enter this industry with full preparation of market studies and market analyses in which makes

the team able to face the competitive technology industry and outstand in front of its future rivals.

Company Legal Structure

The business is structured in a partnership form among all six members (the co-founders), in which,

liabilities will be held with and against all of the six co-founders equally. The shares division, too. Each co-

founder will be holding 16.67% of Pet Me overall shares.

Company’s established official name at the Ministry of Commerce & Investment

One of Pet Me team’s agenda is to get an official name at the Ministry of Commerce and Investment but

yet implemented. What was done by the team is a reserved name (Nissan Pet Est) at the Ministry of

Commerce and Investment. (See Appendix 1)

3. Product or Service Description

The services provided through Pet Me aim to facilitate the adoption of pets in the simplest ways possible to

attract people interested in this culture. Pet Me platform offers its services by letting the old adopter creates

a profile that could introduces the pet to people by an easy handover request. In the case of the new adopter,

he/she will have to submit an adoption request, taking into account the eligibility terms for Pet Me team,

whether the new adopter is capable enough to take care of the pet or not.

The problem the product or service solves

The main problem we found was the lack of adoption places in Saudi Arabia as a whole, as most, if not all

of the pet owners or shops focus on selling and making profits from the pets which can be costly in most

cases and result in people losing interest in getting a pet found. (Bell, 2018) Another problem was the

complexity of the process of adoption in some places, which makes people want to avoid all that headache

and go directly to buy a pet. Also, even if there were places for adoption, they only have cats and sometimes

dogs. (Bell, 2018) Moreover, the lack of awareness towards pets’ rights and adoption was another problem

we found as many people buy pets for their children to play with and get rid of them whenever they get

annoyed or bored. (Al-Sibai, 2017) So we at Pet Me worked on effectively solving these problems by:

Creating a platform to connect between the pet adopter and the pet owner that serves the whole Kingdom

of Saudi Arabia.

Make our services free to attract people’s attention in pet adoption, as the pets are our first priority not

money.

Make our service easily accessible by everyone interested in adopting. In the form of a mobile

application.

Spread awareness of pet adoption and why it is better to adopt rather than buy.

Make sure that the adopter is qualified to take the pet, which is what profitable companies do not care

about as long as they receive money.

Our competitive advantages are the following:

Our services are for free.

We serve Saudi Arabia as a whole, any person interested in adopting can go to the mobile application

and choose their region to match them with people near them.

Our mobile application is very clear and easy to use, making it a good choice even for people who are

not very familiar with technology.

We do not give pets to just any person who wants them, we have conditions a person must meet to adopt

the pet, because what we care about is the safety and comfort of the pet.

We offer different types of pets, like mammals, birds, aquarium pets, reptiles, or others and not only

limited to cats or dogs.

Pricing strategy

We at Pet Me aim to serve as a charitable platform to connect between people who have an intention to

adopt pets with other people who can’t keep their pets any longer, or with people who want to help the pets

get homes. We do not have prices or receive money for our business.

4. Marketing Plan

Market Segmentation/ Target Market

Regarding the huge contribution that " Pet Me " application will obtain in the project's growth; the market

is segmented based on two main types which are the geographical region and psychographic variables.

According to the General Authority for Statistics (2019), the targeted market of the geographical region

would cover the population of Saudi Arabia that represents nearly 32 million including both genders. See

(Figure 1) for more detailed information. Psychographic variables include personality, lifestyle and values.

Regarding the pet adoption field's nature that requires a sense of social responsibility, kindness and high

ethical values which is the same characteristics that falls under the category of voluntary works. Therefore,

based on the General Authority for Statistics the total percentage distribution of volunteers who are aged

15 and above is (43.7 %) of the population and the reason got them to volunteer is "love helping others"

that's particularly derived from values of the psychographic variables. See (Figure 2) for more detailed

information. Additionally, according to the statistics of Pet Me's conducted survey, one of the questions

being asked to the participants was determining whether adoption is better than buying the pet. Referring

to (Appendix 6) in which demonstrated that 70.7% of the participants agreed that adoption is better than

buying. After all, the analyzed statistics of Pet Me indicate an appropriate number of suitable target market

that will contribute to project's success.

Porter's Five Forces Model

1. Threat of Substitutes (High)

For some pet lovers' perspectives, there are other options to pet an animal than adopting it whether

temporarily or permanently such as, visiting a public zoo or buying a pet from any pet store like

Pets Oasis store. Therefore, this creates a significant threat towards the performance and quality of

the alternatives/substitutes.

2. Threat of New Entrants (Low)

Regarding the increasing awareness towards animals' welfare recent years, the threat of new entrants

is low because "Pet Me" is a non-profitable project meaning that its leading objective is away from

competition in this particular field, hence as many new entrants joined this field as the rate of

awareness widely grows.

3. Rivalry Among Existing Firms (High)

There is a high tendency to compete among other existing projects in the area which considers as

"positive competition" to better ensure safety for animals, protect them from diseases and treat them

from environmentally or violently made accidents. Some competitors' examples: Riyadh Shelter

(RARS), Hurairah KSA.

4. Bargaining Power of Suppliers (High)

Suppliers "pet providers" play a significant role in the pet adoption field in which affects how

successful the project is by manipulating the accuracy of the pet's health (ex. forged health

certificate).

Competitive Analysis

Pet me has "indirect" competitors (Riyadh Shelter (RARS) & Hurairah KSA) in which they provide

additional services such as rehabilitation and rescuing whereas Pet me has only one service which is

rehoming. For the purpose of conducting competitor analysis, the comparison scope will be inside Saudi

Arabia; each in Riyadh and Jeddah. The following comparison table explains the differences among each

competitor.

4Ps: Product, Place, Price and Promotion

Product - in the case of Pet Me, it is an electronic platform (mobile application) that provides the

service of adopting pets. This service is provided to all people who are interested in adopting a pet.

Where it encompasses easier process for both parties (provider& adopter). The adopter would

smoothly ask for an adoption request, whereas, the provider will smoothly ask for a handover

request. In both cases, the adopters will be filling up forms that could let Pet Me team ensure their

eligibility status.

Place – Pet Me is introduced to people in an online platform (mobile application) for adoption pets.

Therefore, there is neither physical location or place nor interface interactions.

Price – as our business aims to serve as a charitable platform to connect between people who have

an intention to adopt pets with other people who can’t keep their pets any longer, or with people

who want to help the pets get homes. We do not have prices or receive money for our business.

Promotion – about the marketing trait at the point; it is evident that Pet Me's business idea follows

by techniques of marketing such as word-of-mouth, social media. Furthermore, it prefers to promote

its services in this manner to completely meet the appeal of its target audience.

Challenges and Risks

Some challenges and risks may encounter the business are:

1. Lack of public awareness- Saudi society lack showing mercy and kindness to animals; accordingly,

they lack awareness of adoption and how it could reflects happiness for both the adopter and the

pet.

2. Some adopters won't be committed to the deal by not appearing after dealing with pet providers

through the application.

3. Pet providers' manipulation in pets' health certificates- one way for pet adopters to get rid of the pet

is to provide incorrect/ forged health certificate to the adopter, as a result, the pet may be subjected

to be adopted again.

4. Irresponsible adopters- sometimes adopters lack responsibility and roaming the pet and eventually

the pet get lost.

5. Lack of high popularity- since the business at the very beginning stages, therefore, there will some

challenges to be well known and having good standing among competitors.

5. Operational Plan

Services

There are two main services provided by Pet Me, which are (1) handover request, and (2) an adoption

request as discussed further below.

Service #1 Handover request

People who are no longer have the ability to take care of their pets can simply apply for a handover request

through Pet Me mobile application. The process includes the following steps below.

(1) Opening the application.

(2) Clicking on the ‘pets profiles’ icon.

(3) Choosing the ‘handover request’ subpage.

(4) Filling up the form which provides the information for the pet and information of the owner.

Service #2 Adoption request

People who are interested in adopting a new pet can simply apply to have one through Pet Me mobile

application. The process includes the following steps below.

(1) Opening the application.

(2) Clicking on the ‘pets profiles’ icon.

(3) Choosing the ‘adopt’ subpage.

(4) Selecting the pet’s type; mammals, birds, aquarium pets, reptiles, or others.

(5) Choosing the wanted pet through the displayed categories.

(6) Filling up the form.

Services Costs

As previously explained in the Price Strategy Section, we, Pet Me, do not have any considerations for

service prices and we serve users philanthropically. Yet, however, the team needs to consider the cost of

creating the mobile application as it is the main channel to deliver our service. According to PTCCE, the

mobile application would cost us approximately between 80 SAR to 150,000 SAR in total.

Quality Control

The focus of this business depends entirely on user satisfaction. Therefore, the management team has

devoted all its energy to plan on the quality control provided to the users of Pet Me platform accurately and

comprehensively. By making Pet Me the first trusted electronic pet’s adoption platform in the Kingdom,

available 24/7, easy to use and access, and offered in bilingual form.

Trusted – quality procedures require the management team to verify the eligibility of the adopter and

the health of the pet. Before applying an abandonment or an adoption request (either way), the adopters

must complete an official form containing information about the adopter and the pet. In the case of the

new adopter, he or she shall agree on Pet Me terms by clicking on the terms agreement checkbox. The

terms of Pet Me team includes the following:

The adopter's consent to the animal's health and if he/she lives with his family members or a shared

place, the residents must submit to this approval.

The new adopter should be at the age of 18 or above.

The selection of the new adopter is not in order of precedence, as the choice lies in the eligibility

and what Pet Me team deems appropriate for the pet.

Conduct an online interview with the new adopter to consider its status. If financially and

psychologically able to take care of the pet.

Available 24/7 – The management team has set aside space for users' opinions by setting up a live chat

room designed to hear what users want to say and the team should respond to them immediately.

Easy to use and access – The platform is designed in a simple, clear, and direct way to attract all pet

lovers in the Kingdom to use our application.

Bilingual (Arabic and English) – The Kingdom is open to all cultures and tourists. Since our target

market is not limited to a specific nationality but the place of use, the management team designed the

application based on bilingual use (Arabic and English); since more than 1 billion non-native speakers

speak English around the world. (Kidspot, 2019) By doing so, the business will be able to get closer to

its users by providing both languages with the same quality.

Location

Pet Me headquarters will be based in the Kingdom, Eastern Province. The entire adoption service takes

place online, allowing Pet Me team to reach its target easily. Pet Me is the first trusted platform that offers

this sort of services in the Kingdom, in which, leaves the team to be fully devoted to reaching its target

market with ease and such quality through the mobile application.

Facilities and Equipment

Pet Me platform has neither in-face interactions nor physical store in which makes Pet Me in no need for

facilities. However, as explained previously in the Company History section, Pet Me will be supported by

the PTCCE once approved. Their support would be covering whatever needed to launch the mobile

application. For example, labs provision and mentorship.

Legal Environment and Lawyers

Legal Environment

Pet Me complies with the laws within the Kingdom because the operations are based on the legal system in

the Kingdom. One of the problems faced by any pet’s lovers in Saudi is the lack of existence of trusted

entities in the pets adoption area. Therefore, the team was keen to make the establishment legally official

because the team is keen to maintain the confidence of its users. Thus, in the agenda of Pet Me team, so far,

an official name is reserved under the Ministry of Commerce and Investment (see Appendix 1).

Personnel

Despite that the whole operation will be done remotely, employees will be based out of Pet Me headquarters

(the six co-founders). Pet Me team would like to start by devoting the full potential of the team to provide

the services without outsourcing. The team is made up of six co-founders from different fields. Therefore,

due to the availability of a basket full of diverse skills, the team will take advantage of this opportunity by

providing the services and running the business themselves.

The team will need to divide tasks based on the skills of everyone in the team. To make the work effective,

the team will need a Vision and Strategy Manager, a Senior Manager, a Marketing Manager, an Accounting

and Finance Manager, an Operational Manager, an Information Technology Manager. All of these roles are

to be filled by the six co-founders themselves (see Table 1) on the following page.

In our case, as a start-up, we do not consider a need for additional employment other than what was

mentioned. However, in the future, the team expects that there will be a need for reliable technical staff

since the idea is based on telework. The idea is aimed at pet lovers who use technology. Therefore, all our

considerations will be technical and the need for a technical officer is considered but not yet on our agenda.

Suppliers

The role of suppliers in this business is important as they are the main resource on which the entire business

is based. Pet Me has two main suppliers (1) Pets Providers; people who are located in the Kingdom and are

no longer capable of taking care of their pets anymore, (2) Mobile Application Developer; in which would

be under the support and supervision of PTCCE. The management team aspires to deliver the service with

full quality and trust. Therefore, it has considered the quantitative and qualitative variable during the full

evaluation of the performance of suppliers to meet high quality service standards and make the most out of

its two main suppliers.

6. Management & Organization

Founders Agreement

Upon formation of the company, the co-founders will become members of the Board of Directors of the

company as well as officers of the enterprise. Furthermore, the ownership of the company will also be

provided to the co-founders through shares. Each co-founder will own 16.67% of the shares. These shares

will be of the same class and series in order to ensure that there is no difference in rights among the six co-

founders of the business organization.

Furthermore, any disclosure of confidential information will involve the consent of all the six co-founding

The co-founders will take all the necessary steps to fulfill the mission of company, which is to provide pets

a new safe home. They will also make all the decisions keeping in mind the goal of the company that is to

make Pet Me the best platform for the people of Saudi Arabia to facilitate adoption of pets.

7. Financial Plan

In the case of Pet Me, the financial plan would be focusing on covering the expense of the development of

the mobile application as was mentioned before in the Service Cost section. According to the PTCCE, the

mobile application development would have a cost estimation ranges between 80,000 SAR to 150,000 SAR

that would be either supported by the center or covered entirely through personal funding.

Product/service feasibility

A. Product/service desirability

A platform to facilitate the adoption of pets. Our role is to facilitate the mediation process between the new

and old adopters and to find a suitable new home for the pet taking care of the eligibility of the new adopter.

There are two main services provided by Pet Me's, which are handover request, and an adoption request.

B. Product/service demand

The demand for the service gets up by holding the care of animals to stay associated with remaining the

special standards that remain outside Saudi Arabia. Moreover, animals outside Saudi Arabia get much care

than here, so this is the problem should we solve. After we establish Pet Me's to the market, the demand of

animal welfare will change to the best in Saudi Arabia.

Industry/market feasibility

A. Industry attractiveness

Our project will serve below the non-profit industry which provides a beneficial advantage to industry

attractiveness from consumers. Nevertheless, the need for Pet Me's service is high According to the survey

questions four and five. Moreover, question number five explains that the majority of people would adopt

a pet instead of buying at a percentage of 70.7%. Also, question number four gives us a deep understanding

that people nowadays like technology more than anything. Accordingly, from this question, we saw a large

number of people their responses were yes would be beneficial. We can assume that a application would be

an excellent service to the consumers for the industry.

B. Target market attractiveness

Pet Me's has more extra features to be different from competitors, the adoption is for free for all kinds of

the pet also the service will cover all cities in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the unique idea of Pet Me's from

other competitors are only for selling the pet, not for adoption. Furthermore, segment growth rate these days

most people are more expected to accept the concept of adopting the animals rather than buying by the

influence of social media, such as Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram. Moreover, adoption is much

cheaper than purchasing. So, there is a high chance that the project is continuing to expand day by day.

Organizational Feasibility

Pet Me's team is made up of six co-founders from different majors and they have a great background in

these areas, accounting, finance, human resources management, and management information systems.

Furthermore, each member of the team is very passionate regarding the succession of the business.

Moreover, the tasks will be divided based on the experiences for each member.

Pet Me's is prepared to afford a great service with a high level of quality to provide each user's needs and

satisfaction. Furthermore, the quality control afforded to the users of Pet Me's application carefully. For

example, easy to use and the team should be available to the users 24/7.

The idea of Pet Me is rare in which makes it difficult to find financial performance of similar businesses

because similar companies are profitable companies unlike the idea of our non-profit project.

Pet Me is operated within the concept of purely social entrepreneurship and is 100% nonprofit. Pet Me’s

financial attractiveness is considered to be low due to the fact that the business will not get any revenue out

of this unless implementing some certain strategies. For example, to implement marketing or sell it one

shot.

9. Overall Assessments:

After conducting the survey and our own analysis, Pet Me team is seeing the idea as a chance to be leveraged

by the team in order to have the mobile application launched. Implementing this venture would deepen the

pets-human bond within Saudis, attract people to adoption more, introduce people who have not heard about

adoption to this culture in a good way, and most importantly getting a new safe home for pets easily. People

in Saudi are aware of pet’s adoption culture, yet, a few adopt pets due to the low amount of trusted entities

that people could go to and easily adopt (See Appendix 3 and 8). In which, makes our role important to

those people and impactful to pet’s lives as well. So many pets end up having no home after their owners

cannot take care of them anymore, therefore, at Pet Me, there is no such room for this. Finally, Pet Me aims

high with a philanthropic goal to people within Saudis. The financial plan is not very attractive, though.

However, the whole team is well-willing to contribute to channel our goal through our mobile application.
