About VA Southwest Health Care Network
VISN 18 covers 352,000 square miles of highly diverse geography across the Southwestern United States. The network service area includes Arizona, New Mexico, the western portion of Texas, as well as bordering counties in Colorado and Oklahoma. In Fiscal Year 2013, we currently served approximately 278,000 veterans residing in the network. Within its vast borders, VISN 18 provides a comprehensive continuum of health care to veterans via 7 health care systems, 6 VA nursing home care units, 3 domiciliary, and 46 outpatient clinics. The Network's Fiscal Year 13 budget was slightly more than $2 billion and employed about 10,600 people.
The network maintains approximately 1,350 inpatient beds and treats 27,000 inpatients annually. VISN 18 also supports 3.1 million outpatient visits each year. Network health care services include inpatient acute care, outpatient and primary care, mental health services, psychosocial rehabilitation, geriatrics care, long‐term care, diagnostic services, specialized care such as Blind Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury care, general rehabilitation services, prosthetics, and sensory aids.

Challenges
Greatest Challenges in VISN 18:
1) attracting proposals from Women Owned and HubZoneSmall Businesses
2) attracting proposals on Federal Business Opps (contractors not responding to requests)
3) locating small businesses in medical needs areas such as locums, equipment repairs, equipment buys and services in remote areas
4) promoting advanced acquisition plan by developing a better coalition with our customers and increasing savings through advance planning
