As liaisons to the Brody School of Medicine, their focus is to help you find the information you need. You may see them out and about at Brody, Vidant, and many of the ECU Physician satellite offices.
They can provide group or individual training on data-bases, searching, creating bibliographies, etc. They can meet you at the Library, in your office, and coming soon these sessions will be available via web conferencing.

ENCEPHALOPATHY
Key Documentation Points:
AMS, acute confusion, delirium & encephalopathy ARE NOT syn-onymous either for coding purposes nor subsequent mortality and severity of illness profiling.
Encephalopathy should be further described as: ACUTE Metabolic, toxic, septic, hepatic, hypoxic, hypertensive, etc. And “due to *etiology/diagnosis of the underlying cause(s)+”
May superimpose upon long term neurodegenerative condition such as dementia.
(key factor being an acute change in mental status with identifi-able acute etiology, followed by an eventual return to baseline as the underlying condition resolves)

Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER)
Points to consider for entering a Pa-tient Safety Net (PSN) Patient Event:
Any event that is not in the pa-tient's plan of care for the day should be entered into PSN. If you think there may have been harm to the patient or visitor, con-tact Risk Management @ 252-413-4473 prior to entering the PSN event. If there was patient harm it does not necessarily mean that there was any deviation in the generally accepted performance standards.

IM Residents distribute toys The IM Residents had a successful 1st Annual -Toys For Tots- Toy Drive at The Children's Hospital for children who were in the hospital on Christmas day. They had a great time hand-ing the toys out with many needed smiles!!

Reorientation provided an opportunity for resi-dents to interact across disciplines.
Presenters: Twelve presenters spoke at each session including Dr. Suzanne Kraemer on The Clinical Learning Environment (CLER) and Dr. Robert Tanenburg on Insulin/Diabetes Order Sets for Adults.
Morning Session: Dr. Herb Garrison, Interim GME DIO, welcomed everyone to the first reorientation session. Additional noon and evening sessions were offered.

Noteworthy Tin Nguyen (IM) has created an iPhone app that helps calculate 10-year/lifetime cardiovascular risk called Cardiac Risk Assist (cvriskassist.com). He is working with the American Heart Associa-tion and American College of Cardiology to make the app more ac-cessible to health care providers. An android version is in creation.
