BusinessManager’sLetterFrom James F. Coyne

Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

For Plumbers Local 130, the past year has been a busy and productive one. We have been defining the future of Local 130 by implementing new technology, reno-vating learning centers, taking care of the health of our members and their families and expanding the Plumbers 911 program. Planning today will prepare us to be ready for the future.

Our Local 130 Wellness and Vision Cen-ter is up and running to protect the health of our plumbers and their families. Many are taking advantage of the zero co-pay, zero deductibles and prescription drugs that are available for no charge.

For our January 14, 2020 monthly mem-bership meeting we will be broadcasting in

real time to the Joliet and Volo facilities so that members will no longer have to travel to Chicago to attend the meetings. You will have immediate union information avail-able to you.

Plans are underway to renovate the Joliet Training Center. The Joint Appren-ticeship Committee (JAC) trustees have decided to build an advanced, state of the art facility on their property similar to that of the Chicago Training Center. This mod-ern facility will put our apprentices on the cutting edge of the newest plumbing tech-nology so that all graduates will be the best skilled plumbers available.

The Plumbers 911 program is moving forward. We have added new sponsorships to increase our presence in the market

share with a common goal to re-claim ser-vice work that has gone to the non-union contractors.

We succeed and thrive based on how each and every member participates and supports Plumbers Local 130.

Please continue to read through the newsletter for current news and informa-tion concerning Local 130 UA. Please mark your calendar for our 65th Chicago St. Pat-rick’s Day Parade which will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020.

I wish you and your family a Happy New Year filled with good health, prosperity and steady employment.

WHAT’S NEW AT THE PLUMBERS VISION CENTERThe Plumbers Local 130 UA Vision Center was proud to welcome the Women of 130 for a special “Manicure and Mimosas” event.

Each attendee had a full eye exam, a light breakfast, mimosas with fresh fruit and a manicure while they selected new stylish frames made by State Optical Co. right here in Chicago. We enjoyed “framing the faces of the ladies of 130.” In addition, each plumber received a gift bag along with a dry-fit safety yellow t-shirt to be worn on the job site. Everyone had a great day “framing the faces of the ladies of 130.”

Dr. Bob, Dr. Luke, Jennifer and Maggie were on hand to answer any eye related questions. Remember, your vision benefits go further at the vision center. Each member receives an additional $100.00 reimbursement from the fund office if your individual out-of-pocket spend is $100.00 or more up to $500.00 per family. For an appointment, please call 312-888-9999.

Member Matilde Ramirez.

WHAT'S NEW AT THE PLUMBERS'WELLNESS AND VISION CENTERS

Did you know? presented byA whole life policy can help supplement your Plumbers Local130 UA provided life insurance. Plus, some whole life insurance policies can build cash value over time (similar to building equity in a home), which can be used while you're still alive.

Some people choose to use it to:

• Help fund a child's education• Supplement retirement income• Start a business or expand an existing one

Contact your COUNTRY Financial® District Office at 815-744-2241or call your local representative today.

Life insurance policies issued by COUNTRY Life Insurance Company®, Bloomington Illinois.

Policy loans and withdrawals decrease the cash value and face amount of the policy. The decision to purchase life insurance should be primarily based on a need for the death benefit. Life insurance is not an investment and is not appropriate as a replacement for retirement savings accumulation.

WHAT’S NEW AT THE PLUMBERS WELLNESS CENTERMESSAGEFROMDRTREVOR: I wholeheartedly recommend the flu shot and all vaccines for anyone without medical reason

not to be vaccinated. At the Wellness Center, we have plenty of flu vaccines indicated for 4 year olds or older, and plenty of other essential vaccines. Please call to make your appointment today. (312-421-1016)

Look For Upcoming Promotions:

• For all those that have an appointment in the Health center in the month of January, you will be placed in a drawing for a month of healthy meal delivery from FRESHLY MEALS.

• At the February Union meeting, Wellness center staff will be present taking blood pressures. Those that have their blood pressure checked will be placed into a raffle to win an automatic blood pressure cuff.

On July 8th and October 8th, 2019 Plumbers Local 130 hosted Scouts from the Chicagoland area, which consists of Cook County, a small area of DuPage and Will counties, as well as a small area of Northwest Indiana. These young men arrived early and were welcomed by James M. Majerowicz, Instructor and Training Director of the Chicago Training Center. At the July event, Scouts received their welding merit badges and at the October event, Scouts received their plumbing merit badges. These events were successful because of Plumbers Local 130’s instructors, apprentices and the support of John Baethke, of Baethke and Son Plumbing. John Baethke stated, “It was great to work with the youth of Chicagoland. The young men and women who are introduced to our trade through the Scout’s Plumbing Merit Badge will hopefully be future plumbers and continue to build on the foundation I am leaving behind.” James M. Majerowicz stated, “We walked away with a feeling that these Scouts earned their Merit Badges. It was a meaningful experience for all of us.”

Snow is falling . . . summer and fall have left us. We have some exciting new things happening at the Local to tell you about:

We have completed the installation of the equipment needed to enable us to broadcast the monthly membership meetings to our Joliet and Volo offices. We anticipate beginning remote broadcasting for the January 2020 membership meeting. You will still be required to scan into the meetings the same as you do at the Chicago office to receive credit for attending and be eligible for raffles.

We are happy to announce the opening of the Local 130 “Union Pride” store at the Chicago office. We have selected a fabulous as-sortment of t-shirts branded with Local 130 artistic logos for your wardrobes! We will also be offering High-Vis Safety jackets, hooded sweatshirts, duck coats, travel mugs and mag flashlights to start. For the remote office locations, we will have order forms to facilitate ease of purchase for our members. Hours of operation for the Union Pride store will coincide with all union meetings and late night business hours. We expect the Union Pride store to be open by the first of the year.

Our website designer has been developing a mobile app specific to UA locals. The app will focus on a more-personalized messaging platform for members. Push notifications, forms, online dues paying, group and individual messaging. They are working on a rollout schedule for the app and we’ll keep you posted in their progress.

The UA will be sending out new UA Membership Cards for all members. We anticipate those cards to arrive here after the first of the year. We will send a notification to the membership as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, you may still use your existing UA card or your Local 130 identification card.

Just as a reminder, members can set up automatic monthly payments for window dues. This will help you avoid late fees that equate to a month and a half of dues. Please consult with your banking institution about how to create the automatic payments.

Please remember to always carry your Local 130 membership card and plumbing license with you on the job site. Business Agents routinely scan cards at the job sites to assure proper referrals are in place.

Recently two full time instructors were hired by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC). Both of them are no strangers to our training center.

Wade Blocker started his Apprenticeship in July 2012. He took first place in the Plumbers JAC Third Year Apprentice Contest in June 2015 and in August 2016 he won the UA’s International Apprentice of the Year Contest in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Wade’s plaque hangs proudly in the halls of the Chicago Training Center alongside peers from prior years.

Wade accepted the position as a full time instructor in September. His prior work experience has been very advantageous to the apprentices as he challenges them daily to evolve into the best plumbers for Plumbers Local 130 UA.

Wade is married to his wife Krystal and they have five children.

Derek Vaughn has been an active member of Plumbers Local 130 UA since 2011. During the past three years, he has dedi-cated his time teaching the Chicago Training Centers fourth year apprentices in night classes as well as conducting both State of Illinois and City of Chicago license review classes at both the Chicago and Joliet Training Centers. Derek is moving Plumbers Local 130 forward in the evolution of new teaching techniques that are becoming critical in the information age we live in. He has implemented technology into the classroom settings by using tablets as a medium for plan reading and layouts. Derek is excited to share his skills and knowledge to all the apprentices.

In his spare time, Derek follows the Cubs, Bulls and Bears.
