With a new year beginning, a multitude of New Year’s resolutions will be made and broken just as quickly. Yet, goal setting and resolutions are an important part of business and personal success. Make goals achiev-able so that you can feel good about reaching them at the end of the year. Here are some resolutions you can tailor to fit your own business goals, with suggested action items to help you achieve them.

INVEST IN YOUR BUSINESS: Join the Chamber. As an investor in the Greater Hall Chamber, businesses are entitled to a host of benefits. The potential dividends from investment are unlimited. From business referrals and your company's listing in the Chamber's online directory to making quality business connections, membership is an investment in your business as well as the community.

GET ACTIVE: If you're already a member of the Chamber – that’s a great start! Take things to the next level. There’s nothing like talking to other business people to generate new ideas, refine old ones, and make new contacts. Join peer groups such as the Human Resource Council,

Issues Committee, Healthcare Committee or network during one of the many upcoming events. Business Before Hours on January 16 at North Georgia Community Foundation; South Hall Busi-ness Coalition on January 20 at Lanier Islands; Business After Hours on January 22 at Legacy Link; Chamber Board of Directors meeting on January 22 at the Gainesville Civic Center.

GROW PROFESSIONALLY: In addition to dozens of networking opportunities and events, the Chamber offers programs to assist you personally. Consider attending the Small Business Success Seminar on January 13. Robert Mallon, a nationally recognized professional speaker and high performance trainer, will help you structure your work day for "Maximum Effectiveness & Minimal Stress." I promise, this program alone will help you accomplish more in 2015 than ever before based on both work and personal goals.

GIVE BACK: Give something back. There are all kinds of worthy organizations that make a difference in our community. Make a New Year’s resolution to find a cause that matters to you, and then give what you can. Make this the year that you serve on a committee, be a mentor, volunteer, or simply begin making regular donations to a few of the organizations in our community that help make this a better place to live.

GROW YOUR BUSINESS: Learn how to grow your business on the web at the Digital Marketing Workshop on January 29. Promote your product or service at the Buy Local Expo on February 5 or sponsor one of the many upcoming Chamber functions. Exposure can be priceless, and the Chamber has been the voice for businesses in Gainesville-Hall County for over 100 years. Take advantage now, and have a Happy New Year!

Baldor Electric is one of Johnson High School's newest and strongest Work-Based Learning (WBL) Program supporters. Baldor, formerly Reliance Electric, manufactures custom motors for nuclear plant machinery, underground mines, Naval ship machinery, Caterpillar tractors, and many others. Three students are excelling in the program. Arielle Holland works in insulation by measuring and cutting materials. Ian Cundiff is learning to take motors apart, clean parts, measure, inspect, and learning about motor functionality while gaining valuable exposure to engineering documents/drawings. Luis Contreras works in crating/painting/shipping. He is responsible for taking finished motors and adding the name plate, wrapping in plastic, and crating the motor for shipping. Baldor Plant Manager Mike Holman is a Johnson High School graduate with an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. The mission of the Work-Based Learning Program is to assist in providing a highly trained, technologically sophisticated and career-oriented young work force. This is accomplished by developing partnerships between business, industry, students, parents, school systems, coordinators, and post-secondary institutions which will lead the participating student into meaningful careers. ceCongressman Doug Collins and several members of Youth Leadership Hall helped wrap gifts of clothes and toys with Juvenile Court Judge Lindsay Burton for Hall County children in need. The gifts were purchased with generous donations from the Kiwanis Club. Most gifts included essentials, such as clothing, socks, hats, and warm coats; however, each child was selected something special for Christmas morning. Judge Burton was very appreciative of all the help, and the experience was very rewarding for the students.

Youth Leadership Gives Back

Sammy Smith, Gainesville City School Board Member, and Dixie Truelove with Rosie the Cow during a special presentation at Centennial Arts Academy in Gainesville. Dixie and Jerry Truelove, Truelove Dairy, shared Rosie with second grade students at the school. The students raised money through World Vision to buy a milk cow for a village in Africa. In appreciation for the opportunity to see, touch and milk a REAL cow, the students are naming the donated cow "True Love." Dixie, a past Chair of the Greater Hall Chamber, and her brother, Jerry, operate Truelove Dairy in Clermont, having taken over operations for their father and uncle, who started the dairy farm in 1954. With 150 cows and 300 acres, the Trueloves divide their responsibilities where Dixie primarily cares for the animals on the farm and Jerry tends to the crops and working the land.
